You guys don't seem to get it do you? I meant, asking the people who have been playing, which way have the wagons come for them? I can't seem to find the route myself (yes I was using shift d). Anyway summer just began.

Dude, if you can't figure it out with the most recent save in front of you then I don't know what to tell you. Caravans never had any problems getting to the depot in my year.

Well, I've hard that it was wherever had depot access for wagons. If there was none, then closest. I've also heard it was random if the depot wasn't wagon-friendly though.

Eh it hard for me to figure out those flashing tiles, toady needs to make it so if the wagons can access the depot the possible paths are shown in purple or something rather than the green for any traders. i logged a path to the edge of the map to be safe. Anyway next update and Awayfarer I think you'll like this one.
---------------------------------
16th Hematite
All of the logs were almost back when a band of Rhesus Macaques showed up. For some reason while not attacking the dwarves one attacked a puppy I had put on a chain in the front. Seeing this Dastot, one of the new immigrants that is now a lumberjack, charged it and killed it. I also called the newly formed markdwarves squad topside to deal with anymore beasts. Upon arriving they found another monkey harassing a muskox and dealt with it, the muskox bellowing in fear as bolts flew all around it. A goblin ambush cropped up as the soldiers were finishing their task. Eral, having spent his bolts, immidiatly charged the goblins. In the end 4 goblins, and about 6 of those monkeys died. Eral only suffered and injury to a finger but going by the may he was groaning and clutching at his side he might have internal damage as well. In the confusion a human caravan arrived, we will have to see what they bring this year.

18th Hematite
Sigh… those monkeys just don’t learn do they? One last monkey wandered in as the human liaison was arriving. Domas, one of the new fortress guard, dealt with the beast quite easily despite being only a novice.

19th Hematite
Damn! Another ambush showed up as the wagons began arriving. A lot of people were caught outside at this time. I’ll talk later.

19th Hematite cont
Thank god two woodcutters were topside at this time, unfortunately two others were caught in the fighting. ‘Monom “Awayfarer” was nearly surrounded but was able to fight a few off. He became enraged as the goblins tried to subdue him and promptly began beating their asses to tomorrow. Unfortunately he did not escape without injuries of his own; when I saw him he looked nasty. He had bruises to his stomach, left hand, and his right leg. A finger was pretty bloody and a hole punched in his right ear. But what really drew your attention was his bloody and crooked nose. When I asked him if was ok he just brushed me off and got back to work, I’ll have to see if he goes to bed later on. The two others that were fighting are still chasing the last goblin down.

20th Hematite
On the way back from an unsuccessful chase Vabok and Alath ran into a snatcher, suffice to say it made a great projectile as it flew 18 feet away.

21st Hematite
The human caravan finally finished setting up so I sent Zefon over to trade. We bought a variety of metal bars, wood, some booze, barrels, bolts, and lots of meat and fish. We nearly bought out the whole caravan and gave them plenty of goblin loot and crafts in return. To promote good relations I also gave them a large offering to their leader, we already have too many crafts and whatnot anyway. I had Zefon request for leather, lots of wood, and different bars. Including fine pewter in case Zefon asks for it.

8th Malachite
Zefon has finished dealing with the human liaison, here is a list of what he wants.

8th Malachite cont
Apparently something has taken over the child Zan, she stumbled about as if she wasn’t used to walking. She took over a craft workshop and grabbed 3 logs, a nickel silver bar, a chalk block, a turtle shell and got to work. I hope she will be ok. I also checked in on Awayfarer and it appears that he is fully healed already.

9th Malachite
Nearly all the goblin loot is now inside, we just need a few more bins and we should be done. Also our wood stockpile isn’t even half full so we are going to have to chop down some more trees soon, as soon as we’re sure that there aren’t any more ambushes waiting for us.

16th Malachite
Zan has finished her project. It is a birchen drum she calls Atis Neth, or The Stake of Balancing. While I know artifacts like these are important I wonder when we are going to get a useful one like a weapon.

-----------------------------
Ah this was a fun update. Unfortunaly Awayfarer you didn't accually score any kills dispite becoming enraged, I think the two drafties with axes got em all in the end.

Hey awayfarer, how do you rename your dwarve so it give him a middle name rather than replacing the first name like you have?

17th Malachite
A snatcher was found and was chased to the edge of our territory by a hunting dog.

25th Malachite
Not much happening around here. Plans are being made to make a road out of Jet blocks, the new tower is going nicely. Might make a second one for housing of the military. I’m also digging out more rooms for both nobles and the common dwarf.

27th Malachite
Obok has just given birth to a new baby boy named Minkot, while smoothing out the tombs. This brings our total fort population up to 76 beings.

5th Galena
I was wondering what was taking the blocks so long to be made, I’ve only seen a few, talking with the masons I’ve realized that none are more than of regular proficiency. I suppose having a lot of masons isn’t such a good idea.

7th Galena
Suddenly the number of blocks have been increasing. Looking into the shop I knowticed Awayfarer working away at the blocks, in the four years I’ve been here I’d forgotten that he was a mason. He is an expert at it. I’m thinking of making a mason shop for people of his level or higher to turn out the jet blocks I want.

9th Galena
Ah the main part of the tower is now complete, all I have to do is wall off the bottom floor, finish the tunnel, and put a roof on it. Also Mebzuth has given birth to a boy named Kikrost, I hope this increase in babies doesn’t continue to be honest. I don’t really like kids because they don’t do anything really.

11th Galena
Apparently we have struck bauxite which is great, if we were in a place that had lava. Hmm we can make some interesting furniture with it…

22nd Galena
Having trouble keeping booze numbers up, whenever a barrel gets drunk it gets used for something else. I’ll have to try to make some more barrels soon but we also need to chop down more trees soon as well.

25th Galena
Just watched the death chamber at work today. Rather entertaining to watch two goblins take tentative steps out of their cages and immediately try to dodge falling walls. This time one was killed outright while another lay in the rubble of a trap with much of his body injured. When he woke up he promptly crawled into another trap that killed him. Most of the captured goblins have now been killed but I will leave a few for the next caretaker of the fort to play with.

1st Limestone
Autumn has come and half of my term is thru. Some projects are nearing completion while others are just being started.

2nd Limestone
I just realized that Zefon had banned the export of cloaks, good thing we don’t trade in those anyway.

9th Limestone
Erith, one of the wrestlers, has given birth to a baby boy named Libash.

13th Limestone
The dwarven caravan has been spotted on the horizon, I will order trade goods to be brought out and when they get here I’ll order everyone inside.

16th Limestone
Damn it! Goblins have ambushed the caravan and one of the donkeys are wounded, this could be bad.

17th Limestone
The guard that was with the donkey took care of the goblin harassing it then took off after the others as he became enraged. I sent the markdwarves squad after him to back him up.

17th Limestone cont
A second ambush was found in the pursuit of the first, this could turn out very bad.

17th Limestone cont
The two dwarf caravan guards that went after the goblins are dead, however they did not die unavenged. Tulon was the first to back up the guards and when they died he went into a martial trance. As of right now he has killed a few and is now in pursuit of the others as the rest of his squad catches up.

18th Limestone
Tulon is a much celebrated warrior today! He killed at least 5 goblins today two of them pincusions, two bludgeoned to death as they lay unconscience, and another bludgeoned to death while crawling away. The fallen caravan guards, Asob and Rigith, will be honored and entombed in our own crypt. I have already visited the caravan leader and passed on my condolences. But for tonight we drink to celebrate the victory.

19th Limestone
Has Zefon has met the traders and we have gotten many kinds of bars, weapons, armor a few cages, booze, leather, and food. We have plenty of room for the loot from the recent goblin attacks now though we will have to make more bins now.

27th Limestone
Zefon finally finished with the liaison, heres the list of what they wanted. Also Urvad has recently given birth to a baby girl named Udil.

28th Limestone
“Thief!” Someone shouted. I turned around to see that a goblin thief had been found… in the middle of 2 squads of wrestlers. Suffice to say I enjoyed the view of the goblin having every bone in its body broken.

29th Limestone
We are swamped in metal gear that needs to be melted, yet we donot have the fuel means to do so. If only we had some damn magma. Also we have yet another situation with finished goods not having enough room, I’ve assigned some of the gold stockpile to be moved to make room for the loot.

13th Sandstone
The merchants are now leaving and the battlefield is about cleaned up. I hope that the caravan doesn’t run into anymore misfortune.

16th Sandstone
Child snatcher was found, he fared just as well as the last thief.

20th Sandstone
Excessive logging operations have commenced, hopefully we can get some work done with two squads guarding us.

-------------------------------------
Wow this was a very fun update as well. I'm in the proccess of building a Jet block road and a massive amount of logging. I'll probably beable to play for another 2-3 hours so I hope I can finish this in time, it might just end up being tommarrow but be ready Joseph Miles, your next. Heheh in that one picture you can see Tulon chasing the last ambusher while a squad of wrestlers arrive.

edit: odd... Awayfarer for some reason you guy isn't showing up as he did before. Before he looked similar to a noble (mayor, town manager) but now he looks like a mason. That might be because his mason abilities have increased but I'm not sure...

22nd Sandstone
Shit, someone said they saw immigrants coming our way. We are not very well prepared for them and I know that they’ll be coming in a flock of at least 20. Trading that extra stuff away probably wasn’t such a good idea.

25th Sandstone
Final count is in and it’s not as bad as I thought. We have 11 new arrivals, one of which a marksdwarf, and even better no nobles. Still don’t know what I’m going to do with most of them but likely a few of them will make into the military.

26th Sandstone
I put most of the immigrants into military and pulled the switcharoo with the fortress guard again, they only need raw recruits anyway since they’ve done nothing in defense yet. I’m busy reassigning people into squads of 4 dwarves, the marksdwarf squads should be split into groups of 2 upon completion of their marksdwarf training. As to what the other squads will train into I don’t know.

26th Sandstone cont
After working into the night I’ve figured that we will have 2-4 squads of marksdwarfs (in training 2 squads, when done probably 4) and 3 other squads of 4 that can be trained into whatever weapons we need. As it is unlikely that my plans for the military will come to full fruition in my term I will have to leave the training of the melee squads to whoever Zefon chooses next. I would like to suggest that one squad be hammers, one squad be axes, and the last one maybe swords. I’m also going to have to leave the work of armoring the troops to the next in line; I think I might be able to squeeze out the weapons provided we have plenty of lumber during winter for charcoal but I don’t have the time to deck the troops out in steel armor.

20th Timber
Ah haven’t updated my journal in awhile. We’ve been hard at work logging trees and paving the roads lately. Winter is almost upon us and one of the marksdwarf squads are about to start training.

21st Timber
Ineth, a gem setter, has dropped the jet he was carrying and started babbling. He has claimed the jeweler’s workshop, gathered an uncut prase and got to work. These weird moods usually gathers a lot of materials but he only takes one material. Can’t wait to see what happens.

25th Timber
Ineth has finished his creation. It is a Prase crown called Shedel, or Orderweight.

1st Moonstone
Winter has arrived and I am on the last leg of my term. Looking back I feel that I have done well. I did take a little long in finishing the captain of the guard and the dungeon masters rooms, only finishing recently, but they are done.

-------------------------------
Gah so close to finishing. I admit I've been watching the closing ceremonies of the olympics while I wass playing which slowed me down, but sooooo worth it cuz that ceremony was awsome. I should have 2-3 hours tommarrow homework permiting so I most likely will finally finish.

11th Moonstone
For some reason Zefon has decided that hatch covers should not be exported, what goes through this woman’s mind I have no idea though I have heard something disturbing relating to tea about her…

18th Moonstone
The current logging project is finally complete, the wood stores now sit at least 3/4ths of the way full. While I may set more logging to be done I’d rather concentrate on other things right now, like getting the military up to scratch.

24th Moonstone
Today I saw Zefon of all people honestly working like the rest of us. Apparently she must have picked up some stone setting tips from the masons because I saw her out there working on the road, she must really support the project.

5th Opal
Kobold thief was found today. A wrestler squad chased after it and a passing marksdwarf managed to put a few bolts into it, how the damn thing managed to get to the edge of our t territory after that I have no idea.

9th Obsidian
Can’t believe that my term is nearly over. My last project is nearly complete and the steel making production if firing back up. We will have to see how this goes.

15th Obsidian
This is an odd occurrence. Apparently one of the wrestlers decided to go near the river while on his way to get a drink. Some how a sturgeon managed to attack him. He apparently grabbed it by the head and threw it promptly back into the water. He’s lucky he didn’t get injured; those things are nearly as vicious as carp. Both those fish are the reason why the river is off limits to everyone to prevent unnecessary injuries and deaths.

27th Obsidian
As a gift to whoever is chosen to be my successor I have commissioned many statues of jet carved for him or her to place as he or she wishes.

1st Granite
And now my reign comes to an end, passed off to whoever Zefon chooses next. My precious road is nearly complete with one section being built and another having materials hauled to it. Steel production is beginning to ramp up, accommodations for more nobles and dwarves have been dug out, a small tower has been built for our marksdwarfs, food is stable. I bid this job farewell and shall always remember it.

-So ends Datan “Userpay” Lorbaminsel’s term.

-------------------------------------
Well that was alot of fun. Anyway, to whoever goes next there are a few squads stationed out along the road, a few in front of the fort entrance, and one marksdwarf squad training (have fun trying to supply those trigger happy bastards). Anyway some pics.

Road nearly finished, can't believe that wasn't done when my turn was over.

The deathchamber in which the stonefall traps should probably be eventually replaced with weapon traps, maybe traps with only one hammer in each. Those are two gem windows on either side of the door by the way, would be nice to keep those there.

The current tombs, added mine and the dungeon masters tombs and spruced up the tombs as a whole.

Part of the new rooms that were dug out.

And there is the stocks screen at the end of my turn.

By the way I renamed the save file to Deeparrow since it wasn't already and reduce any conflicts with worlds already titled region2.

Save file here.

1st of granite, early spring, "arrival"
"well planned" comes to mind as i examine the architecture of my predecessors. It seems that the fort can withstand the test of time, attested by the numerous dead goblins whoose names have been recorded for future prosperity. Much storage space, and many bins have been placed.
I congradulate them on the amount of space available.
>(formal letter)
>2nd of granite: questions for my predecessors

> Why in the name of Geshud Saved Gravel the Greeness of Searching is there a super double wide bridge to the middle of nowhere?
>Also, close examination reveals  neglect of one important thing:
>the entire left side of the fort is exposed, without even a chokepoint, why?

First order of buisness, goals:
   river grates for the fisherdwarves
It seems the fisherdwarves are in short supply. Fort dwellers seem anxious when asked about the discrepancy. Perhaps the marksmen need new targets? I dare not dwell further on the shortage.
cooking the large amount of fat, especially unicorn fat to ensure it does not rot. People have complained of a large number of seed-based biscuits lately. I have ordered the fat cooked.
smelting the excess supply of lignite
lignite is universally considered as an inferior fuel source, however, the halls can still be rid of it easily.
mining rare gems from the bauxite:
This new-fangled goblin clothing can be reclaimed using studding and encrusting, I fully intend on encrusting many gcs items, though it may not work out.

a ramp has been commissioned with the masons, to provide a path for marksdwarves to shoot carp in (on the fortress walls)

if only there was sand available on the map, my tomb would be built with blocks of unicorn soap.  Not because its super valuble, but because unicorns are natural enemies of dwarves,  as per some sort of demon horse, complete with horns and a bad attitude.
a new goblin shooting gallery will soon be established in the archery range, using hatches, levers, and fortifications(sniper goblins will not be given this "preferential treatment")
