Tholfeb "Deeparrows"
The seven of us were going into the area i'd come to know as Deeparrows practically empty handed. We had a little bit of food and drink left after the journey, our dogs had fared the journey well at the start, which is good as i like to have something reliable on watch, and we had enough supplies to get a base started. The area surrounding us seems quite serene at first sight. Hopefully we can live here without much trouble. The native wildlife is a little sparse, but i have to keep a close eye on my men. The rivers are teeming with pikes, sturgeons, and worst of all by far carp.My men laugh at me but they've never seen what the little bastards can do to a dwarf.
In any case, they're should be enough supplies here once we strike far enough into the earth to hit some solid building materials.I've had two of my hardiest dwarfs take up the task of tearing into the mountain, but i've made sure that they leave room for expansion later.
Early into our journey a few strange things have happened. A few unicorn have wandered into the area, I never even knew the beasts existed in real life, but hopefully they will leave well enough alone. Along with that, some chunks of, what we can guess, a sea lamprey have washed up on shore. Were not exactly sure how he died, but my men are a little more weary of the water now.
Knowing our supplies of booze wouldn’t hold out long, I quickly began work on a still, I used to make bootleg beer all the time, and am currently working in the still between farming. My fellow dwarves have given me the title of “brewmaster”, and it’s actually catching on. I managed to get enough beds for our people, and a farm is coming along nicely.
It’s Autumn now, the first few seasons brought along no new immigrants, which is alright with me, This winter will be hard as it is. A few groups interesting events occurred lately. We had our first traders come, and they provided a variety of uncooked foods for us. Along with them, however, came not only kobold thieves who were quickly dispatched, but a large group of Rhesus macaque. It’s was amazing watching my dwaves and war dogs quickly corner one, and tear it to pieces. After a few hours we had killed most of them. I plan to make a butcher shop, i hope my fellow Farmer isn't squemish around dead Rhesus macaque.
Still no migrants have arrived. This proves troublesome, as I have been looking for some people to start up my smelter. Luckily I have found some lignite and I’m producing some coke to have a good amount of fuel. Hopefully I can get a couple steel weapons and a lot of iron armor on our soliders soon. Winters coming soon, i'll have to keep a close eye on my booze supplies if the river freezes over.
