A shining moment...
« on: August 11, 2008, 05:57:49 pm »

Many years ago, someone made Dwarf Fortress histopry by discovering they could pick up, and subsequently throw, vomit.

I intend to enter into a similar hall of fame.

All you need is a pool of blood or some other bodily fluid, and a container with some space left in it.  Yes, it fits in a waterskin.

Also of note is that this stuff doesn't freeze.  Perfect for you mountaineering types.

Now sell it to a shop!

Admittedly, that wouldn't be very exciting, but I'm just imagining the shopkeeper's reaction.

A few thoughts and questions.

What's the difference between vomitous blood, and bloody vomit?

Secondly, was I the only person who thought it'd be funnier to throw the cave lobster?

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

Vomitous blood is a liquid and can be drunk, bloody vomit is an object and can be eaten.  Also, it shows up as "bloody bloody vomit" when in the inventory, and you can't fit as much of it.

And although you can give the stuff to a shopkeeper, it needs to be "snuck in" with some other transaction, as it has no worth.

Side effect of some modding I did.  I intended to change it so that kobolds would bite as a primary attack, but I ended up opening and closing the raw file a few times, and I guess I didn't scroll down far enough that last time...   Dwarves got it instead.

So now, when he gets his axe (I've actually got him holding two of them at a time, berserker-style, but he never uses the second one) stuck in somebody and I decide to attack someone else, he'll either punch or snap.

Vomitous blood will soon be a must have for any adventurer going in the mountains.
Indeed, you turned a new page of DF History.

And you have a chance of refilling your drink supply while on the mountain.  If you pierce the heart of a creature, it will immediately create a pool of blood that can completely fill up your depleted stores.

The only problem with this is that you need to be dehydrated before your character will drink blood.  That means you have to walk for a while while thirsty, which will slow you down a bit.  Alcoholic drinks are better in this regard, but they're much harder to get enough of and they can't be restocked while on the mountain.

So, can you drink your blood covering while dehydrated?
