I designated a garbage dump inside my fort, where I want to fill up a cistern. I mined out an ice-lake during winter, creating lots of "water" chunks, and designated them all to be dumped, but none of the dwarves are doing it.

Make sure your dwarves can haul outside refuse in the

• rders->[r]efuse menu

It won't work anyways. Melted ice blocks give you water 'items' which your dwarves will clean up like vomit.

Unmined ice walls will melt to give flowing water.

But you won't be able to use it anyways. It's be 'items' as opposed to actual water.

Don't be so harsh -- you can't drink it, but that hardly means it's useless.  It's actually not too bad of a building material if he hasn't fixed that yet, because constructed ice walls tend not to melt.

I wanted them to dump the ice blocks into a resevoir I created deep underground, with several walls warmed by nearby magma.
