Okay, so what is so bad about this game caeono? Care to explain? Now I am kinda worried..maybe I shouldn't buy it?
I'll try: Hinterland is pretty much what you've seen in the trailers, screenshots and what you've been told about it. Don't expect it to be much more and you'll be fine. When I started playing I felt a little underwhelmed, but the game kind of grows on you once you've played it for a while. It seems really simple at first, but gets better.
The combat is
very simple. It isn't much more besides using your possible buff items at the beginning and then just holding the mouse button down over the enemy, drinking the occassional healing potion when necessary. It's also fast paced to the point when it's difficult to see what's going on. This makes using ranged attacks especially hard and I really hope they'll do something about it eventually.
As I mentioned in my earlier post Hinterland also has a large collection of small glitches and rough edges. Everything from a few of the starting character classes being almost impossible to play on the harder difficulty levels to your party members getting stuck in various objects to some of the windows not refreshing until you close them and open them up again. My current favorite is the lack of a quick key for the region map, which makes repeatedly opening and closing it more of a chore than you'd imagine.
Okay, I think I managed to address all the major reasons why some people might not like it. Hinterland seems like a real opinion splitter in any case (I can't wait to see how the official reviews turn out). It's like you had just found a many years old but innovative game and were trying it for the first time. It feels fresh, but on the other hand you keep hoping that they had done these certain things in a different way, even though you don't have a better game of the same concept to compare it to.
I should also mention that while it may sound something like Majesty it really isn't. Granted, it combines RPG elements with strategy but in a very different way.
I also quite liked
this "first impressions review" of the game.
