[39e] Iron Golem atacks lowered wallgrates.
« on: August 08, 2008, 08:00:20 am »

Had an Iron Golem for a visitor. So I lowered the gates='wall grates' to give it acces to the traps inside the fortress. The first thing what happened was that it stood idle for a few minutes. I had to lure it inside with a soldier.(bad path finding?).

And when it was at the gates it attacked the lowered wall grates and entry hatch. I have no problem with an Iron Golem who destroyes closed gates/doors. To get inside the fortress. What I find a problem is when an Iron Golem destroys invisible lowered wall grates. It not even bothers to visit the traps I have placed below.   >:( So it this a bug? Or bad luck?

Maybe the same reasoning why a wagon can't get through the lowered wall grates? It might be too large to fit (does the game even track that in relation to normal creatures?) so it has to bash the thing down to go through.

Also, Iron Golem? Iron Man more probably, unless it's a mod.

Hm... Iron Man...

Does he fly and has repulsor ray?

Kidding aside, I think downed grates are still valid target by creature.  Since you can "see" it using the "q" or "t" command.

As for them not being able to walk through... odd...

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

Yes but why?
Why should a Golem attack a grate when it's down? It's pointless. >:(

Only when a grate is up it should be a problem/visible. And when it's down it should be invisible/no objection and a clear path for sieges.

And only when it's up it should be a problem and a blocked path. For a golem to smash through  ;D

@Sean Mirrsen
Could this also be a reason why by goblin sieges the goblins stand idle outside and not trying to get in?

Check creature raw, it probably has building destruction enabled. If that is, he'll just destroy buildings lying around if it's on 1, or seek buildings to destroy on 2. If he's bored, he'll still destroy a building sitting next to him like a lowered grate.
