The fun continues.

I've got two 3x3 staircases going down into my fort. One of them I sealed with 9 obsidian hatches, while I shut off the other one by putting down a pillar with a door on each side by the bottom of the staircase.

Suddenly I get this message, which I've never gotten before:

Butcher's shop toppled!

What on earth? I head over there, and the shop is just gone. I grab a screenshot and wonder if I should head over to the forums and search for answers, when all of a sudden:

Door destroyed
Door destroyed (paraphrased)

Now it dawns on me what I'm facing here, buildingdestroyers. I've got a small military of two people up (not knowing what class of weapon a "steel ripper" or whatever they're called is, I don't know if they're armed with them), and two war dogs trained, and I send them over to see what's going on, and end up fighting a large radscorpion, three supermutant thieves, and some other creature I don't remember the name of. Ended up activating my entire vault (14 people after an immigrant wave) into one single squad, and they beat the intruders to death.

After the kobolds of vanilla Dwarf Fortress, this is some challenge ;D . Just the fact that they break down doors and hatches, so that I don't feel like a cheater when I build and lock them, makes this so awesome.

Edit: looking at the unit's list, turns out it was only four supermutants. I must've been looking at clothes or something when I saw the "radscorpion" line.

Edit 2: just got another eye bot, and realized that was the last creature, the one I forgot about.

I'd suggest a tower with gunslingers on top, or a long passage (if you don't build underground) with channels and fortifications on sides (like security stations in many FPS games), that's how I fight ambushers. I am sure you're expierenced enough, but I'd suggest to look out for building destroyers. Also it looks like you're not playing with a zombie addon, which is much harder (common infected are ok, but those nasty zombies with permaparalyze are... nasty; I usually start with some metal bars and produce ammo from the beginning).

Hm, there's a lot of plants, not that I changed that much :). They just have different names, but still they grow at insane rate as plump helmets, and because you can grow them in sand, it's easy, no?

Rippers are, I believe, Axes.

Been playing this for a while now. Mutie thieves are just nasty, and the one Mutie ambush I've had so far ripped my military apart quite handily.

Yeah, invisible supermutant thieves (I imagine them being nightkin with stealthboys) are pretty nasty, but they do not avoid traps, and you can set up a perimeter of animals which help (a bit). :)

Enclave is teh evil though.

Hey I'm a new dwarf fort player and I've tried to play this mod but even though it starts fine but the screen off centre making hard to play any idea why this is happening. My other dwarf fort seems fine so i don't know what i am doing wrong here.

Did you use the .exe installation and place it in a new folder? I don't know what causes it. Can you show a screenshot? I cannot be more helpful right now because it's my birthday and I am drunk in bed with my wife with my poor laptop which suffers major tremors :P, but if you post some more info I will be able to try to solve it tomorrow.

no worries got it working fine just needed to set the resolution to a good setting. Now to have fun with my vault dwellers hopefully involving death-claws ;D.

Hah, maybe. Although I think that unit is a bit stupid and lore-breaking, but... What else could replace a colossus, hah?

Ohoh, the Calculator! How could I forget it! Well, I haven't played a lot of FT, so thanks for reminding! It means there will be more robotic creatures for the next release, and they will dwell underground as subordinates of the Calculator! And more forgotten Robots will come from the depth! :)
