Water + Dwarves
« on: August 07, 2008, 01:26:11 pm »

= Not very good. I'm currently trying to make my military dwarves spar underwater in order to train 4 different skills at once,
but as soon as they start swimming, they just sit there, and don't even sleep in a dry barracks when they're tired,
or drink when they're thirsty. My question is; do the dwarves start to drown if they fall asleep, and if so, will they try to get
out of the water?

if there is a ramp or stair case they should get out of the water when they need to, but it sounds like you stationed them there.  In order to spar the dwarfs have to be off duty and in a barrack, so you would need to assign a barracks in the half-filled room in order for them to spar in there.

Can you tell us if that works? I don't know if they are swimming if they are sparring, though they would be in the down time between sparring matches,

Or maybe a mechanic, if given enough time to prepare.

Another way to increase their stats is to create a very tiny meeting zone. Have all of your dorfs socialize with each other, thus working on many skills all at the same time. Their stats will skyrocket.

The downside is that tantrums are more likely should a few dorfs die, but tantrums can be so fun.

Unfortunately, when the military dwarves are in water that they have to swim in, they don't spar, as they consider it "dangerous terrain"
Additionally, they don't move to drink, eat, or sleep. But they can still gain some swimming skill before you have to get them out.

That wouldn't train swimming I don't think.

It's worth a try though, keep trying with varying water levels.

I'm afraid right now all dwarves are just stupid about 4/7 or deeper water and consider it "dangerous terrain" even if they have decent swimming skill. Military dwarves will still fight underwater however...

Nope, I've had them cancel because they needed to be NEAR 2/7 water.
