Swords getting stuck in enemies.
« on: August 07, 2008, 11:33:14 am »

My sword got stuck in a giant desert scorpian. I killed it, but I don't know how to get it out. How do you pull items off corpses?

If you can't stand on the corpse and pick the sword up with "g" then I'd try setting the corpse next to a tree and burning the tree.  Also, document whether or not this gets the sword out.  I've had this work for me, but I can bring any proof and I haven't been able to get a stuck-in to disappear lately.

If it's still in your grasp, just move a tile away, if not, walk over the corpse, [G]rab, / or * till you find the sword, pick it up.

Burning the corpse should work. Don't do this with wooden weapons.  :P

That's interesting.  I've never had a stuck weapon stay in a corpse.  The weapon always comes loose on death and either stay in your hand if you still had a grasp on it or falls in the same square as the corpse if you lost your grip.

Of course if you stick a weapon in an enemy then run away and get out of the enemy's sight range it'll take out the weapon itself and drop it to the ground.

The situation is that the weapon sticks in, you lose your hold on the weapon, enemy dies from blood loss or fists/impromptu weapon before it gets to pull out stuck-in weapon.

Yeah, the weapon just falls out on it's own in that case.  Happens with arrows too.

This isn't something we're positing, it's something that we've observed. Weaps stay stuck in the corpses under those circumstances.

I've had this happen, and been unable to retrieve my weapon sometimes because of it.

In my experience axes rarely stick in. Use axes.

I actually like it when my weapons get "stuck in"

Which is why I use a spear.

I tend to do really well against groups of enemies because, generally, when I counter attack, I hit something with my spear and it gets stuck in.

So instead of attacking, I spend all of my combat rounds hitting shift-i and retrieving my spear, which causes more bleeding, and, during the next round of counterattacks, its getting stuck in someone new.  Works really well.

What's really cool is when your adventurer gets their sword stuck in a creature, the adventurer dies, and the next adventurer grabs the sword from the creature and kills the creature.

Of course, the second adventurer is also a swordsman, so now has two swords!
