Zombie Gator Menace
« on: August 05, 2008, 10:04:34 pm »

So I decided to try a difficult fort: pocket world, 2x2 embark into haunted forest w/ volcano and aquifier, no civilian skills. (all dorfs start with a little bit of Wrestler skill), bare minimum of items.

The main challenge is the constant stream of zombie alligators. Though weak against axes, they sometimes land a lucky bite. And annoyingly, wounded dwarves hold onto their equipment when resting.

Four zombie fire imps and 15 zombie alligators later:

GOOD LORD! THEY CAN TAKE OUT WOODEN HATCHES (AND DOORS?)?!?!

Time to draft my heroic carpenter, before the gator munches on my wounded guys.

Great, there go my last two dwarves.

A caravan just showed up, and one of my guys is wandering around the surface all mangled and dying of thirst, while 3 other ones are below ground dying of thirst. GIVE US WATER YOU HEARTLESS MERCHANTS!

Zombie alligators are just one of my few major wild animals problem areas in the game for a young fort. What else is there? Zombie Elephants for one. Zombie Werewolves are none-to-fun either.

Let's hope that caravan brought you some yummy booze so you can get an aquifer set up for a well.

DF has werewolves?!

Are they just bigger badder wolves or do they turn into humans on off-hours? Or better yet, into dwarves?

They are like annoying wolves that head straight for your dwarfs when they appear at your fortress. Nothing special otherwise.
heh, that would make an interesting game if dwarfs started turning into werewolves if injured by them.

You can still get equipment from people who are resting. If I am correct, just dump the item in question and when a dwarf starts to haul it select it in his/her inventory and de-dump it.
