My bot has a personality awfully similar to my true one... I wonder why someone holds a grudge against me... I am slow to anger!

24th Felsite, Late Spring of 214
Overlord's log

I underestimated the boldness of the fire imps living in the magma pipe. They assaulted Nagash, whom I had sent to gather protein from the local wildlife. We found him lying in a pile of fire imp parts and blood mixed with spilt coolant fluid. His right motivator had suffered serious heat damage and his outer casing was covered in burn marks. There was some internal damage as well. It is not yet known if he will be salvageable. I had Darkbot assemble an examination table to set down the sawbot on. We will see what becomes of him.
One of our cleaners was caught by fire imps and dragged into the magma. It has been deemed unsalvageable. I hope I can barter for a new one with some mechanisms when the caravans start arriving.

I've been watching the workers. They have been exhibiting concerning habits. There are signs of...grudges. As I mentioned in my last entry, Kashyyk and Darkbot were behaving in an uncooperative manner with each other. The same is between Emperor Jonathan and Aranha. Unsurprisingly enough, working closely has brought Aranha and Kashyyk very close together.
I hope none of this is affecting the quality of their work, or I will have to start making examples out of certain individuals. Thankfully Nagash's incident has kept them watchful against outside dangers instead of brooding over personal issues.
Plans for the magma-powered smelters are proceeding well. A few changes had to be made to avoid upper levels of magma flooding into the corridors.
End of line.

Attached are the farmers' personality profiles.

11th Hematite, Early Summer of 214
Overlord's log

The first supply caravan arrived today. I sent Darkbot to the surface to set up a trading depot. What worries me is that we don't have anything worth trading right now. I asked Darkbot to craft some mechanisms. I'd ask the Emperor to make decorative items of stone, but he's busy digging the magma smelter channels.
We have found copper, it seems. Not as useful as iron, but it'll do for now. Once we get a forge built we could start producing proper weapons. A few trained gunbots with railguns should go a long ways toward making the surroundings safe.
I've been thinking about our defenses and I'm afraid I have done a few mistakes with the layout of the fortress. The expanded sub-levels aren't deep enough. Any moats of magma we make will have to cover a large area.
No matter. We will just have a larger aboveground area.
The caravan didn't bring any wagons, as the way to the depot is too cluttered with trees. I will have to assign someone else to assist Nagash with clearing the way, should he manage to repair himself enough to resume working. If not, we will have to recycle him. There will be objections, but my first and foremost duty is to ensure the prosperity of this fortress. I will not be hindered by petty sentimentality.

End of line.

Can I have a fauna seeker bot that uses sawblades to hunt. Or at least a fisher bot.
Call it chaotic.

Edit: actually railgun hunting is starting to sound apealing, but sawblades if it gets too tiresome.

17th Galena, Late Summer of 214
Overlord's log

Nagash's condition seems stable. I cannot say how long it will take for him to recover, but at least he is secure.
I've gone over the Council's material request. There seems to be an increased need for motivator and stabilizer plating, as well as shields. There is also mild interest in light plasma lances and chainblades. Standard military requisition. They must know we have magma, and thus cheaper production costs. What surprised me was a surge in demand for rings and idols. Trinkets! Although I suppose I must take whatever opportunity I can to trade in badly needed equipment.
The local area offers many resources, but I am concerned about our metal supplies. Of course we could do with only copper, but stronger metals would be sorely needed. I wonder...there are goblins in the surrounding lands. Maybe they can be...provoked. Yes, they would surely challenge the Skewered Rip's encroachment and attack. And from them we may strip much-needed metals. I will have to see what can be done.
I placed an order for an anvil with which we can begin production of metal equipment. Soon we will be ready. Now, I need to speak to Darkbot about those mechanisms for a drawbridge. He seems like a very capable robot to have in a position of authority. The grudge with the fuel cultivators is a minor concern. They are too placid to start a conflict.
There is also the matter of the perimeter fence. We have plenty of cut blocks and can begin laying down a wall to keep the wildlife at bay. For the most part there have been no large predatory animals, but they might soon make an appearance. This opportunity to rise to the head of the Council will not be wrested from my grip by some wild beasts!

End of line.

Yay, another community fort to lend my likeness too and thne forget about.  A smith would be cool, but throw me in anywhere you need an adequate unit.

Awful lot of emotion in these robots aren't there?  Inefficient.

Without pleasure, no pain.
Without want, no lack.
Without good, no evil.
Perfection is one.
One is the machine.

Interesting. I will assign you to an emotionless collectivist robot once I find one.

I was actually going for a less realistic view of robots here, something along the lines of Stanislaw Lem, only with ruthlessness and evil severely cranked up. They're more fun when they are inefficient and you have to admit that robots with DF AI are going to be comedy gold.

Don't get me wrong.  Bender was the coolest robot ever.  Never heard of Stanislaw Lem, I'll have to look that up.

An ultra-communist forgebot sounds fun.  The Steel Proletariat shall rise!

Lem wrote these funny robot fables that featured horribly bad science and often revolved around two inventors (who were also robots, like every character in the fables, with a few exceptions) who had Diplomas of Everlasting Omnipotence. They once rearranged a star cluster to read as an advertising billboard when they needed a job. Organic life was described as slimy, filthy monsters of irredeemable evil. They also contain rather satirical descriptions of royalty. An amusing read, to be sure.

27th Galena, Late Summer of 214
Overlord's log

Nagash made a full recovery, it seems. And rather quickly. Unfortunately, since we don't have a water reservoir yet he decided to take a drink outside and was chased away by a new threat: harpies. We will have to set up war drones near the entrance to keep any intruders out of the basement levels. I assigned a pair of hunting drones to accompany him at all times to prevent such annoyances.
Speaking of drones, the drones and our remaining cleaner have completed their first replication cycle. Once they auto-calibrate properly we will have more guardians to keep our fortress secure. We will have to set up a programming area to upgrade them to higher combat capability.
The cause for Nagash's trip is being solved as I record this. The Emperor is excavating an underground pipe to the nearby river. It will be directed into a small reservoir under a shaft. A mechanism will be set up above it for easy collection. We will take another step to complete security with that. Once the harpy threat is dealt with we can continue with the construction of the aboveground compound.

Darkbot continues work on producing mechanisms. He's a surprisingly Competent Mechanic.
Jonathan also discovered some aluminum while digging the water pipe. We'll see what can be done with this. Until we find iron ore or recycle equipment found on goblins, we will have to do with copper armaments. Hopefully we will be able to trade for an anvil soon. There is no telling what other dangers are lurking over the hills.

End of line.

1st Sandstone, Mid-Autumn of 214
Overlord's log

A supply caravan arrived. This time I had prepared for it and had Emperor make a large assortment of trinkets, since we did not have any of the other products for sale. Mechanisms were required for the planned initial defenses and water intake controls.
I have to say I was astonished by the supply requests from the caravan. Windows! The highest prices paid for the next caravan will be panels of glass! I cannot fathom what they will do with such...except shielding something from the elements while being able to observe it...whatever it is. Perhaps research? They seem pretty desperate for some of these items. Ammunition, for example, will sell for more than half its actual worth! Sadly I will need all the ammunition I can have, as undoubtedly the goblins will have noticed our base of operations. I must hurry the construction of the wall.
I can safely say that harpies are no longer a problem. I was in the process of disposing unnecessary rock in the magma pipe as harpies attacked. I promptly summoned a pair of war drones to my side. The harpies now lay dismantled in the organic waste pile. Their bones will be made into training slugs for our future gunbot garrison.
The Council has decided to postpone sending reinforcements until further notice. They must know of my ambitions and are trying to regulate my support. Scheming buckets of rust. Even they cannot stop individual robots from gathering at Steelgripped. They know that a newly settled Doom Fortress will require a sizable work force and flock to serve my plans.
Construction of the defensive wall has begun. The courtyard will be small at first, but we will expand it at a later date and add a moat. Not even the most foolhardy of invaders will try to cross a river of molten rock!

End of line.

10th Timber, Late Autumn of 214
Overlord's log

As I predicted, a group of workers arrived in the wake of the caravan's departure. Eight robots, all in working order.
I will analyze their personalities later. As for now, here are their names and skills.

Aqizzar, forgebot. Brought an organic pet. Strange person.
Chaotic, a fisherbot.
Drakale, a flesh harvester. Seems very enthusiastic about processing organics. Better keep him away from Aqizzar's pet.
FinDude, whom requested to be put to combat duty. Assigned him with the position of first gunbot, although we don't actually have any railguns yet.
Gaubot, a stonecrafter. This frees up the Emperor to dedicate himself entirely to mining.
Manifold-1, a stoneworker. This should help speed up construction of the outer wall, which is almost finished.
Momaw, a drone mechanic. He'll be useful when the first batch of dronelings are calibrated for combat.

We have enough blocks for the construction of the wall and are almost done. The northernmost side needs to be completed and the drawbridge set up. Once it is ready, we have basic defenses done. I've ordered Darkbot to set up a lever and prepare to connect it to the drawbridge. Soon we will be safe from most wild animals. Once we get the anvil I will have the defenses complemented by a regularly stationed guard of gunbots in the courtyard, with a fallback station near some chained-up war drones. Our position becomes more secure with every passing day.

End of line.

All that business about the unfeeling machine, and the RNG dishes out a smith with a pet.  What is it anyway?  I hope it's a cat.

Warning, your fortress does not appear to have a compatible anvil.  Make sure that all hardware has been properly installed, and all system drivers are currently up to date.
