27th Slate, Mid-Spring of 217
Overlord's log

As I feared, the Council decided to take a more active interest in my doings. This morning a group of robots arrived at the gates, proclaiming to be the Baron of Steelgripped plus entourage. The guards would have turned them back or scrapped them for such insolence, but they had official papers. I can barely describe my fury at such pompousness. All four of them requested private quarters, including stasis chambers for the Baron and his 'assistant'. I suspect that expensive and borderline illegal sensory simulation chips are involved, as the assistant seems incapable of the lightest work. Their very presence is an affront to everything this fortress stands for. But I must control myself and allow this...extravagance. One day I will have my revenge for this outrage. The Baron also brought his personal accountant (who undoubtedly is going through Coelobot's files as I record this to evaluate the monetary worth of my fortress) and a thug that can more accurately be described as a one-robot wrecking crew. She holds on other possessions than a heavy-duty pneumatic hammer which can undoubtedly crush even the strongest plating. It was implied that somehow they knew better what was required of this fortress and if any of their demands weren't met there would be consequences. I have no doubt that I can shift blame onto any of the workers, but the pure nerve of these people! They waltz in, make unreasonable demands and threaten to scrap MY workers? True, there are a few less...efficient individuals, but it is I who should be making the decision to dispose of them. I'm not sure if this...Baron even knows what any given worker does for a living.
I'll have to talk to the administration staff about the...Nobles' quarters.

End of line.

Not necessarily a good idea, since we have TWO blademasters that aren't you.

So, I'm going to be taking requests for any of the noble entourage, and there are still some unnamed workerbots. I have more than enough warbots right now, so I encourage the taking of workerbots. Although you will have to remember that there are severe penalties for making the wrong kind of artifacts, so keep in mind that your robot may or may not end up in the garbage compactor. Surprisingly enough, non-compactor deaths are quite rare. In fact, only three have died with relative dignity. Except Momaw, who failed a suicide jump twice and ended up dying of overheating (thirst). Then there was that unnamed guard who got killed in a training accident and a fisher who got mauled by...was it a werewolf? Can't remember any more.

17th Hematite, Early Summer of 217
Overlord's log

It's been a busy few weeks. After going through the extensive specifications the Baron's - who introduces himself as Baron Steve - demands of his quarters, I've come to realize something. He is not just pompous, but seemingly oblivious and incompetent, too. This is a good thing, since he's not likely to follow whatever I'm doing very closely, and he can easily be manipulated. I don't think I need to hurry his impending doom. It's not his flunkies I worry about. The Scrapper he brought only follows given orders and...Dave, his personal accountant, is nothing more than a Yes-bot, sucking constantly up to the Baron.

The sluice gate which ejects lava out of the moat has turned out to be useless, as the lava creeps slowly downhill and solidifes not far away, and thus is useless except for frightening organics away. What a waste of time.

End of line.

Addendum:
An organic diplomat arrived earlier today. It had clearance to meet with the Baron. The security personnel gave him a quick scan. What they discovered worried me greatly. It had a Mindcore with it. Fearing the worst, I slipped a reprogrammed cleaner into the Conference room. I managed to catch a bit of the conversation, which frightened me to no end. The worst of all was the confirmation I received after taking an enhanced image of the papers they were going through. I'll let it speak for itself:

Attached file:

Papers of assignment
Level 2: Administrative AI
Model type: Baronbot
Model version: 2.539
Software version: 5.921
Designation: Velmenni
Additional notes: speaks in unfiltered optical binary.

This robot has been assigned by the council by an unanimous vote to serve as the baron of fortress #34, designation "Steelgripped".

Continue recording?
y

The bastards. Baron Steve is just a facade. The real Baron is a Council AI hiding inside Steve's computer systems. They think they can trick me into overconfidence with a blundering, decadent and completely inept Baron?
Well. Two can play at that game.

End of line.

In other news, Poltifar sucks. He's a Professional Bladebot, but compared to Faylone, Necrontyr and Tinboy Chain'ands, of which Faylone and Necrontyr are Blademasters and Tinboy is Legendary Champion, he's pretty bad.
Seeing as Poltifar was the first warbot in the fortress and Necrontyr is the newest recruit, this says something.

I have a tendency to imagine that while the robots all have generally similar systems, they have a wide variety of frames. Necrontyr, for example, I imagine as a Necron, as expected. Tinboy, on the other hand, I see as a very Orky robot with scrap metal bolted here and there with lots of red paint. The funny thing is, Tinboy is using perhaps the worst quality gear of all warbots, just a +Copper chainblade+ and Copper reinforced toso plating.
Kashyyk got accidentally drafted into the Royal Guard among with a few nameless farmers.
Beepboop is still engraving donkeys here and there. Gamma took it on himself to carve cows here and there in the Baron's quarters, for reasons unknown.
Darkbot had a mood a while back, making an artifact mechanism. With an image of the High Councillor rising to power. Needless to say, Gamma seethed with rage at that, as usual.

Interesting take on my idea.

I heartily approve of it. Pray, continue.

In fact, I've been hit by a sliver of inspiration. It's not even an +inspiration+ yet, but the more I think about it, the more it grows... Consuming me like a raging inferno... Yes... yeeesss... YEEESSSS.... YEEEESSSSSS! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!

See, the thing was that after I posted the opening of the Baron's position, I went looking for volunteers on #bay12games. Capt. Mayday got the spot, but as I was about to make a new post, yours came up and I would have felt bad ignoring such an excellent application. But I also liked the idea of the Incompetent Baron Steve and his debauchery so I decided to combine them. Two Barons for the price of one! And this way Gamma will have a true nemesis!

Oh by the by, if you happen to get ahold of a REAL siege, please post up the battle, mostly in text rather then video. Its hard to follow videos.

That would be really awesome if you happened to get a siege with a huge amount of cannon fodder and weapon masters. Means more kills and skins to drape on us as decorations, so we can all be flayed ones! YAY! :P

And between the intrigues, the U.R.I.S.T brand CPU putters away in its office, putting numbers together for a more efficient stock keeping of tomorrow.
