Dwarf Fortress Wallpapers
« on: August 05, 2008, 02:16:04 am »

I spent a few hours mucking about with different DF related pictures. I made one real fancy one that's like a collage, that I'm using for my desktop wallpaper. I'm gonna go through and hunt down the artists for all of these so I can properly credit them, or, of course, destroy the work if they don't want me using them. I thought I'd show you guys though, and if you want you can take it. Anyway, I made one real fancy one, and another 'neater' one, if you're going for a minimalist feel. They're set to 1024*768, or whatever default resolution is.

EDIT: The following are the sources and such for the collages:
Boatmurdered
Nist Akath
Copperblazes
The Intro Movie
The Bay 12 Games Logo

SUPER EDIT:
As per the drawings and such, credit goes to:
Locus
Shanty
Veryinky
Toady, or whoever did the logo and movie
And... Whoever did the Nist Akath tribute bit, post somewhere so I can credit you.

And if any of you don't like this, just tell me, I'll destroy it.

Enjoy.

I also have these in various states of construction, so if you wanted one with certain features but not others, I probably have one like that I can post. Hopefully this works. :)

They're too busy for my taste in wallpapers.  Hard to see the icons.  And no insult intended, but isn't taking a Boatmurdered tribute pic and writing Nist Akath on it disingenuous?

If I were making a DF background (and I should put my net-cred where my mouth is and do it), I would make it look like the interface, with a space for icons in the menu area, and a graphic sceen of battle in the viewer.

First of all, that idea is genius. Second, I did say it was just a collage. I'll edit my original post to account for all the different sources.

Edit: Third, disingenuous is an awesome word. Forth, I know the one is a bit... Busy... Or loaded with crap, but the other one is minimalist and looks to me like a worthy wallpaper. Ah, well.

Is that the axe mosaic from Copperblazes? I had totally forgotten about that fort.

Yeah, it is. I spent a long time in MS Paint getting rid of the supports and the dwarves and animals on the mosaic when I took the screenshot. And due to it's epicness, I felt it deserved a spot in the collage.

Do you have the plain version of that Boatmurdered tribute picture?

As a sort of side note, when you read Boatmurdered, and you got to the end, with the notes about it's destruction, on the bottom of the last page, did you get chills? The kind where you're like: I just read something, something that is a part of history, maybe a fake history, but a history that resides in our hearts, our minds, forever... I got chills. Boatmurdered was fucking Epic. Nist Akath has the same amount of epic because of the amazing story, but Boatmurdered is the epitome of running something straight into the ground. Chills?

Yes! Yes I did.
In fact, I let a lone, many tear run down my cheek. It's actually one of the best endings I have ever read.
I wonder what later happened to the child, and the last remaining warrior of Boatmurdered?

I was too lazy to do all that so I just messed around with a screencap. I'll actually make it interesting later. Crap quality and HFS Spoiler, also.

The collages are way too gaudy for my taste. Centered on a black screen:
