Ok I'm running 39D, and managed to kill my baron inadvertantly, had some magma on the surface walled off with bauxite as it came out of a tunnel and dived into a channel. The baron had admired my fine forbidden front door and backed up about 10 squares and stood there while the commoner immigrants walked up to the door and whispered some password and were allowed through. I saved and went to bed, the next day I was checking the settings and discovered that my son had disabled the tempature effects, which I enabled and resumed the game.

*-Magma sets fire to grass on other side of warm baxuite walls.
*-Grass fire did not go up or down grass covered ramps, was confined to one z level surface.
*-Dwarves pathing through the area pathed right through the grass fire. (fire present before path was established, pathfinding ignored the fire.)
*-Dwarf standing with no job allowed slow fire to creep up to him and catch him on fire.
*-Warm wooden wall that had a dwarf trying to remove it, kills the dwarf due to heat but in none of the screens could it be seen that it was on fire, there was smoke, but not able to determine which object was actually on fire (artifact wooden floodgate, limestone floodgate or the wooden wall.

Baron was a risk taker and thrill seeker, so I guess he allowed the fire to get too close, once I unforbid both doors to the interiour of the fort he ran right fast for the door leaving a smoke trail, when he got to the door, he got to admire it again, and headed for the trade depot opening on the side, he did not make it, falling unconcious due to the heat and pain.  The tax collector died by pathing through the fire, and the hammerer slew a fire imp but took a leg woulnd and the forces of darkness picked that moment to show up, and ran her down and mobbed her. The baron consort had started harvesting crops without being told, so I used dwarf foreman and officially gave her the farming and food hualing jobs, as well as health care due to her helping others trait.

So I give you the grass fire fortress defense, have a fire sourse on the hevilly vegitated map, temperature off, in comes a siege, leave the doors open till the goblins almost there, forbid the door and save, turn on temperature effects, the gobblins will stand and get burned to death, also destroying all the annoying cave spider silk socks.

Cheers, warwizard

Wooden walls are immune to heat, so that wouldn't have been burning.
