Giant Eagle - Big Wimp?
« on: August 04, 2008, 06:00:22 am »

So, I have a big scary Giant Eagle (which I intend to catch) flying about my area. This is the second go at this map, last time he ate 4 of my starting 7. This time he flew right up to my Miners, said Hello, then wandered off. My Dwarfs didn't even run away in fear. I fear I may have a geriatric on my hands or something, and he just wants those damn small dwarfs to get off his lawn. Will this mayhaps kick down my Bird Cage idea? Its not fun if I cant feed people to him.

I had a giant eagle flying around my fort for about 2 years, it never attacked or even came close enough to scare anyone.

I was deliberately avoiding giving anyone the hunting job to try to try not to annoy it though.

Ive had a few eagles in my area and I moved everything inside as soon as possible because I heard they're somewhat visous. More recetly I've caught one and now have tamed it, but I'm not letting it out of the cage yet because I don't know what to do with it. If the whole riding animals thing gets impemented I'd likely use it as a mount and see what happens  :P

I once had a skeletal giant eagle. All 7 died within a minute. I reclaimed with all marksdwarves. All of them killed.

Marksdwarves were a bad idea. No organs = waste of arrows.

Problem, its a flier, melee won't work too well either...

Damn...

At least it wasn't skeletal dragon, breath fire, immune to ranged weapon, and difficult to hit with melee.

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

I've never had a fleshy Giant Eagle attack my dwarves either. I'm currently running an experiment in captive eagle breeding and war training, so we'll see how effective they are at killing stuff.

For a skeletal Eagle what you need is a few wrestlers in the patch with some hammerdwarves, the wrestlers hold it down and the hammerers... well, hammer.
