Magma proof dwarves
« on: August 04, 2008, 12:13:43 am »

This is rather strange, one of my dwarves accedently dug into a magma pool, then was immediately submerged in magma, yet he's still alive! I quickly ordered some walls to be built to contain the spill, one of my dwarves decides it would be good to build on the side with the lava, and traps himself inside of the said area. So now I have 2 dwarves in 6/7 deep magma, and still living. I wasn't warned of warm stone either, which was strange, checking the area around the magma shows it as safe.

I'm currently in the process of trying to save them, presuming that the fire imps will eventually find them if i leave them sitting in nice cool lava that doesn't melt off their beards. Gonna take a quick recording then post it here in a few.

Edit: Got a video up:

Watch at 300-500 rate for best result.

I think an obvious question is "Have you turned temperature off in the init file?"

Well now we know how we could make lava traps without hassel.

Hassle.  Also, with temperature turned off, magma is pretty much harmless - IIRC it won't even set wood on fire.  In fact, the only difference between it and water this way is it's not subject to pressure and your dwarves can't drink it.  So it'd be pretty useless in traps. :P

I'm glad all the DF players are not living in one district. It'd be the most dangerous district for the whole world.
Actually, it'd be the most dangerous district in hundreds of thousands of worlds, starting with 'Xah Rabin' The Dimension of Omen.

You can always turn it back on when you're done.

It's possible to make lava traps without Hassel.  It just won't be as hot.

Say, do the dwarves have a magma coating on 'em? I wonder, if you turn temperature back on, would that instantaneously cause them all to burst into flames?

Lol, why did you have to go and tell him? I was hoping to wait and see what'll happen. "Hey, this red liquid is hot! Ahh!" (6 magma dwarves wake up from their beds and workshops and set fire to everything)

Yeah, one had a magma coating, i turned temperature back on and she instantly burst into flames, it quickly got rid of my forts overpopulation problem. Then a 3 year old went berserk and killed off the rest of my dwarves. No joke.
