New plants/animals
« on: August 02, 2008, 06:22:05 pm »

How can I make a new, from scratch plant or animal and have it appear in the game? I'd like to make a (rare) tundra tree. Can I just copy/paste some random tree and change some tags? If so, how do I change rarity?

Copy-pasting is the standard way of doing things, just make sure you change the profile name (like TREE_OAK or TREE_ASH) to something different, as duplicate entries can cause a bit of havoc.

Quick word though...  You can change the rarity of animals and small plants, but trees are a different matter.  Also, nothing grows in the tundra.  Even if you add a new entry, there are some biomes that just don't support plant life.

If you really want wood thats tundra grown, you'd have to mod in an animal with
[ITEMCORPSE:WOOD:NO_SUBTYPE:WOOD:(put type of wood here)].

Then you could hunt for wood. Or even better, breed wood.

That sounds interesting. Frost Ent, maybe? ;D

Can I use an original name in the tag, like Frozen Wood, or do I have to add that somewhere else too?

As is, [ITEMCORPSE:WOOD:NO_SUBTYPE:WOOD:FROZEN WOOD]?

Yeah, you have to add a new entry (har har) in the matgloss_wood file.
