Menacing new foe!
« on: August 02, 2008, 10:03:03 am »

I just got killed by something I could hardly believe.
I did some ocean swimming for training, tried to travel away, and was ambushed by a....skeletal longfish mako shark!?!?  I was weak, so i stepped away from the water, but he followed me on land, and proceeded to tear my throat out. WTF mate!
Anyone else see a weird creature?

Yeah skeletal aquatic creatures kick ass.

I wish I saw more of them myself.  I plan to swim across a terrifying ocean with my next adventurer.

Fought my first nightwing(s) in adventure mode (well in any mode really).

Was a bit disappointing since i had about 12 elf companions who turned them into pincushions with their spears.

Also my first werewolves when i was still alone, but they aren't as worthy of mention.

I'd like to have a world with evil everywhere so i can kill one of every special evil creature (grimeling, foul blendec, strangler, etc.) with a single adventurer.

Has anyone ever even seen a strangler, or a blizzard man, or a grimeling?  It seems like some of the creatures are extremely rare.

They're like House of the Dead 3's sloth boss.

Big, angry sloth that eats your brains.

Not a sloth, more like a 3-eyed, 4-armed, sharp-toothed gorilla.

I've seen a blizzard man! WTF is a strangler?

That's where you sit on your hand for about a half an hour and let it go numb before you ...

Wait ... Oh.  Sorry, I thought you said 'stranger'.  My bad. :-X

There's also the "Grandpa", where you put it in water for a while first so it goes all wrinkly...

I kept getting grimelings in one of my 2d forts, but haven't seen any since. I'm pretty sure that was in a swampy area.

Fought my first nightwing(s) in adventure mode (well in any mode really).

One of my most successful desert forts (30+ years I think) had several years of multiple nightwing attacks. I'd lose about four or five wardogs per nightwing, but once a nightwing flew up over my marksdwarf fortifications and ripped the face off my squad leader (both eyes gone, nose and brain broken). His squadmate (and lover) managed to take it down with several iron bolts, but not before it got close enough to break her arm.

I roofed over my marksdwarf tower after that.

Too bad there's still the wildlife respawn bug - I'd loved the fact that I got nightwing attacks every other season, and the desert became quite dangerous for my herbalists, at least until they stopped respawning. I did manage to get four of them in cages before they stopped coming, and later used them in my goblin pit, where they did pretty well against goblin thieves and soldiers, but got mangled when they went up against a hammerlord.

Hm, that's a cool story.  Anyone know if there are any videos of DF pit battles on the archive?  I'd like to watch them, since I never manage to get one built myself.

I've seen some grimelings in adventure mode. Pretty easy to kill. But I agree a lot of creatures are quite rare. Gives some spice to the gameplay, I guess.

Eh, the most unique I've seen are ice wolves, but I don't play adventure mode that often.
