:P, sorry about that. I have failed English class for three years running, consider yourself lucky that I am using a Firefox spell checker.

It's okay, I just couldn't resist an opportunity to post a picture of a discus. ;)

My family do in fact have an amazon styled tropical tank filled with two discus and about 200 neons. So I have seen one before, they are quite interesting fish.

Ah.  I thought it had something to do with the discus.

Anyways, this is an absolutely brilliant idea!  Instead of precious metals, you could use cinnabar and cobaltite statues to make the teams easier to spot.  Just set the stockpiles up to take statues of only one particular material.

To increase the amount of peasants grabbing the flag, you could just have three flags per team.  Things would dwindle down eventually, but at least the game wouldn't stop after just one flag.

Ballistae are expensive, even if you do the channel-drop ammo recycling process.  Spikes and grates are wonderful ideas, but dwarves won't path around spikes.  Grates would be better, as pathing will be effected when they change status.

I would also reccomend my carp-pit idea, where you have a large tank that's mostly floored-over, except for a few one-tile holes.  Dwarves that are in safe areas won't notice the fish underneath, but if they walk too close to the edge there's a chance a fish might drag them in.

Goblins and other random monsters would also make for great entertainment.  Let's not forget "flytrap" atom smashers either!

It could be done in a vanilla game of df using dwarves vs goblins.

Code: [Select]
________________________
|............................+.ba....
|g..........................+.lis.....
Xg..........................+.ta.....
|.............................+++++++
|.............................^^................O.....(bait or freedom)

the g means goblin
the two ^ are preassure plates linked to
the O or open floodgate
and the X or closed flood gate

Two pressure plates are needed because if they were linked to one floodgate, the both have to be either opened or closed.

Discus.

Discus? ::)

Glad I'm not the only one who's anal about spelling (and who noticed "discus" instead of "discuss") :P People saying "loose" instead of "lose" pisses me off as well. Glad I haven't seen that in a while...particularly given what a popular concept it is around here :D "Loosing" is only fun when it's related to a volley of marksdwarves' bolts and goblins' heads.

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

No, it refers to opening up the cage full of kittens that you've been stockpiling.

Instead of using batialas use catapults, they still kill things in one hit and catapults are more random of where they hit.

That's the problem: catapults are useless, and they never hit the target.

The best thing to do is use multiple flags, so multiple haulers go at once.

But unless you have an Aquifers on your map or you are building an above ground only fort you should have plenty of stone sitting around to launch. Plus you are bound to hit something if you have mass catapults.

Now we have the First DF Spectaure Sport and a use for the cannabal Tree Hippies besides keeping the Dragon well fed, maybe we can incorparate this into the justice system either you spend 200+ days in chains, get beat to death by the hammerer, Or thrown into a pit with kobolds, gobbos, and cannabal Tree Hippies, if you escape your free to nurse your remaining limbs until your next crime. Now all we need is for soap blocks to allow slide and we can make the arena Really fun by making the floor completely out of Soap and opening conventitly placed flood gates... Heck hand the invading Dragon a Bag of Elves and watch him gamble his hoard happily away watching the myriad of races duke it out for viewing entertainment, then offer him the job of occasionally roasting a adventure and build him his own luxuary Cave in the Arena.

Now,if someone could make it so you can set dwarves' alignments, you could actually get the dwarves to fight each other!

Another option would have been to set up cages, and try to designate Animal 1 in Cage A to move to Cage B and Animal 2 in Cage B to move to Cage A.

Because then you get to see the dwarves slowly dragging it across the battlefield =)

Problematically:

1.  The 'flag' will probably die in the crossfire
2.  It's not possible to set specific hauling like with stone vs. furniture hauling.

Although, with regard to #2, one option is set a kennel on each side, and designate a training task.  You'd want to leave animals assigned to a cage, since that will (iirc) cause dwarves to try and steal back the animal......

Two words: Goblin slaves. In some sieges, you're attacked by Dwarves that were raised by goblins.

Along the same train of thought, how about Dwarven Dodgeball?

Six ballista, two bolts, a half dozen fortifications, and a pair of pits to make the ammunition reusable.

Edit: Hacked together screenshot! Observe! Innocent bystanders are a good thing.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.
