Is there a way to see what seed # was picked when a random map was created?

There is. Just follow these simple steps:

X. Copy your game. Now, using the copy:
1. Abandon the fortress/retire the adventurer (if necessary).
2. Start the game in the desired world in the legends mode.
3. Export the map (using 'p'). You will get a bmp file with your world map, a history text file and a text file with a seed in your DF folder. Quit the game.
4. Save the seed somewhere and delete the copy.
