Goblin caravan!?

Maybe I missed something in the new update, but a goblin caravan just arrived.

I was expecting a "trojan horse" maneuvre, and so I set my army to escort them to my trade depot, and put all my marks dwarves in their towers.

But when I opened my gates, the goblins strolled in, and started unloading their carts. Then I remembered, "Oh shit! Goblins export pain!" and so I locked down my whole fort, waiting for dragons and demons to come spewing out of the two donkey-pulled carts.
But the dragons never came.

So I asked to trade with them, and they politely said, "Our apologies, but we haven't finished setting up yet!"




So, what the hell? Why are goblins nicer than elves?

Did you remove the babysnatcher tag from goblins?

Did you install the new version over a previous version?

As was, goblins were always evil, but now that world-gen's got a greater handle of the whys of wars, they only start between people who are ideologically opposed to one another. As goblin and dwarf share opinions on torture, plant and animal welfare, and religious spheres, and dwarfs don't mind a snatched baby or two (-hundred), then they're mostly friendly now.
Sieges and ambushes are a thing of the past, at least till Toady makes someone violent again.

Well in the unmodified latest release, Goblins should not send caravans and should siege regardless.

Will they still attack me? My fort is fucking amazing, and I really don't want to find another like it  :-[

If you destory enough of the goblin's caravans you can get them to hate you enough to seige you.

I remember reading that removing snatcher would kill seiges altogether, but I'm not sure on that. I think you can just pop it back on.

On the flip side, humans will now go berserk and camp your doorstep if their diplomat dies on your turf. They bring their own campfire.

Then this is a known issue.

I believe Toady is using the babysnatcher tag as an ad hoc solution to the current diplomacy while he tweaks it.  It makes the goblins act like they used to in fortress mode.

If it's the location you like, well that's what seeds are for.

Ugh, alright.

I'll but snatcher back on until Toady fixes everything...

But it's my fort I like. I just finished a big-ass wall, and the well, and everything!

Will turning snatcher back on work without me regenerating the world?

I have two questions about that.

If I do that, will every race siege me, or just take my kids?

And will I need to regen?

Because you're only editing existing races, no.

If you were adding new races, yes.

From what I've heard, yes, the [SNATCHER] tag makes races behave the way goblins used to (i.e. a siege comes every year) but I can't remember if it actually still makes snatchers.
