Kobold Ambush! Skulking Vermin!
« on: August 01, 2008, 03:29:41 pm »

Have others seen this before?  It's the first time I've gotten it.

I'm playing unmodded 38e, but I used EmbarkAnywhere to live in the mountains.

Nevermind.

I just realized that this is probably common.  I am in a sinister biome full of undead, so I leave all the dead kobolds and dwarves and their equipment outside.  So thieves steal it all and thus get bold?  I guess?

What, exactly? An ambush... or the fact that it's a kobold ambush?

If the latter, perhaps you've embarked near a kobold cave?

I've seen a kobold ambush once and only once before. A bunch of bowmen attacked before I had any traps or anything. Needless (ahahah, get it?! NEEDLES!) to say that fort was lost :p

Did the kobolds manage to get away with goods?

I've heard that if they have a successful theft they start ambushing.  I keep my goodslocked up tight though, so I wouldn't know.

Yeah, I edited the above post when I realized what was happening.  I'd killed a few other kobolds in the past, and lost a couple dwarves, but I forbid all their stuff so that the dwarves wouldn't kill themselves trying to get it in a sinister biome.  The kobolds picked up all the -giant cave spider silk sock-s and the like, which I guess made them want to kill me.

I got kobold ambushes for about three seasons but then they seem to have stopped.

I had a similar situation in a half tundra half terrifying glacier in the past. The ice wolves made it very difficult to recover items that fell from creatures that died outside, so in my fourth or so year I was attacked by a kobold ambush.

Needless to say, my war dogs and moderatly strong army ripped them to shreads. Since then I've always tied a bunch of war dogs in my entrances in the event it happens again.

That's weird. Kobolds usually take damage from the cold, freak out and run away before they can grab anything. On deathly cold glaciers, they just die.

Did you turn temperature off?
