My farmers won't plant crops!
« on: July 31, 2008, 09:32:55 pm »

I have an underground farm, 3x4 plot.
The farmers can reach it. Obviously, since they could build the plot.
I've designated for the farm to plant plump helmets all year round.
I have 2 dedicated farmers and both of them are either idle or carrying stuff around.
I have about 30 plump helmet seeds in storage.

So, why wouldn't they plant anything?! Gah, I've set around a few other farms and it's still the same thing. I know what a seeded plot should look like, I've made one in my previous game, but they won't farm anything this time.

Oh, my underground farm plot was really a channel dug out from a dried out lake (because that's where all the dirt was. Does that affect anything? It allows me to plant plump helmets, but rain reaches the plot, so it's not entirely underground.

dude - plump helmets need to be planted underground.  the tile properties need to say dark/underground.

i'd turn off all jobs except farming too.

It may be that you are just at the end of season, so they have to wait for the new season before planting.

Lol, both of you were right. Thanks :) It was light/subterranean, which confused the farm into allowing me to plant plump helmets.

I wonder if dwarves get sick of eating plump helmet stew every day.

I've had a similar problem. Well not that much of a problem. Sometimes my farmers stop planting and the plump helmets option on every farm plot turns red. After the season changes i can plant again.

What causes this?

I think it's just that it won't let you plant if they don't have enough time to mature before the season changes.

Plump Helmets can't be planted in late winter.

I'm glad all the DF players are not living in one district. It'd be the most dangerous district for the whole world.
Actually, it'd be the most dangerous district in hundreds of thousands of worlds, starting with 'Xah Rabin' The Dimension of Omen.
