[39e] Dwarf confused in water
« on: July 31, 2008, 06:38:06 pm »

I searched the bug list and saw that it was supposed to be fixed. However, I have a dwarf with swimming (he got novice and is now just gaining swimming points standing in a 6/7 pool of water) and while he is thirsty and even part of a squad, he is refusing to move.

There are ample ramps leading upwards and the entire path to those ramps are also 6/7 water. Next to the path are channels, but they don't block the path at any point. The other soldiers managed to flee because they weren't surrounded by water. Urist McSwimmer is. I have noticed that if a dwarf is close enough to a ramp, they will not display this behavior, so I believe this is an issue of ramps being too far away and the dwarf being unable to realize that he can swim all that way.

...now if only I could figure out a way to upload the save game.

You can try The Dwarf Fortress File Depot which has a special section for bugged saves.  I'll need the region folder in some kind of zip/rar/7z, and any new objects that were added to the raw folder.  If it's less than 20 megs, you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com

It depends on how far away the ramp is, since it would cause a lag if they looked too far for ways out.  I don't remember if I did the part where they should move around randomly if they can't find a exit location nearby, or if that's just part of the notes.

He eventually starved to death, without moving from the spot. I had also just remembered that I could channel above him, but my miners kept having cave-in issues (channeling), so I didn't make it in time. Still, I made a back-up save when I noticed the anomaly. I'll upload it in RAR. Other than changed worldgen parameters, everything should be vanilla.
