Anybody play Morrowind?
« on: July 31, 2008, 03:36:35 pm »

Awesome game...it's up there in my top 5 best games ever along with DF, Angband and a couple others.

Anyway I just remembered yesterday that Morrowind has cannibal elves too - the Bosmer eat their dead.

I wonder if there was any influence there.

ITT discuss Morrowind.

Not only that but the Bosmer make booze out of milk (jagga) or rotten meat (rotmeth).  Yech.

Tis the game of gods. You can make pants of underwater breathing in that game. Which makes it almost as divine as DWAAAAARF FORTRESS.

Did you just post a bunch of vegi-dicks on my board?  I've been trying to combat forum devolution a bit, and that involves fewer vegi-dicks!

Daggerfall was even better in many ways.  I never did finish the main quest of either though.

Morrowind had great exploration.  Finding all sorts of stuff, cool loot, and weird sights.  Had great music too.... Then came Oblivion... :(

Also, this is the wrong sub-forum.

Or is it?
It WOULD fit here, but it COULD fit elsewhere.

It is true that the only thing good about oblivion is the script spell effect, but if it were possible to add it to morrowind....

I tried Daggerfall, but the world was so impossible to become immersed in that I gave it up. Morrowind feels REAL, that's why I like it so much. And yeah, Oblivion wasn't too immersive either, but for very different reasons than Daggerfall...

I should try and reconstruct some of my awesome Dwarf Forts as Dwemer ruins in the Construction Set. I don't think traps as such really exist in MW though, aside from the ones on chests...

-No level scaling
-World has way more diverse locales, as well as amazing amount of background info, history, information about cultures, etc. that makes it feel really believable, not to mention original
-Main quest has a pretty original and intriguing storyline
-No level scaling
-World feels way bigger and is much more fun to explore
-Lack of minigames make some activities a little duller, but also make character skills important
-No level scaling

It had level scaling, just not so extreme as in oblivion.
(e.g you meet mostly blighted animals in the wilderness at higher level)

Perfect game: Morrowind with Oblivion physics engine and graphical power.

And heck, while I don't know much about programming it sounds easier than designing a whole new engine + World. Then they could have time to add some stuff, like randomly generated pesant NPC's with a a good name generator. Ruins with more varied doodads. Effects we could only dream about in Morrowind. Large amounts of clothing customization.

I did have Morrowind, but the X-box I used to play it was dieing from a failing power source. And I doubt my computer could handle it. Before you say it's old now, remember my computer gets 30FPS tops at DF. On a 2x2 area. My computer is around ten years old now.

While I could think of a list of things to add to Morrowind, the list of problems is small and trivial.

It would be cool to make a world in a game like Morrowind and have it up as multiplayer. I remember seeing one team making a world where each of them has a section, and some of them were just working on a single city. Given the outdoor customization possible (interior areas seemed like mostly set pieces) you could really do a lot.

Oblivion's graphics weren't even that good.  They removed object soft shadows even though they had been shown in previous builds of the game.  The distant views were really ugly with a jarring transition from high res to low res textures.  The animation was still robotic.  They also made all the cities enclosed so that they'd work better on the 360 and then used that as an excuse to remove flight spells, thus freeing them from the expectation of interesting 3d level designs.  The textures were blurry.  Oh and for some reason the PC version couldn't use Anti-Aliasing and HDR at the same time even though the 360 version could, and so could Half Life 2... and every other game ever made that has HDR lighting and Anti-Aliasing...  They never fixed that.

Wow does all that really matter? It angers me when people pick apart the tiny things to say it sucks. One example of this is what console has better graphics.
