Level Changing

I'm not sure if this is a bug or something I just need help with, but for some reason I am unable to change levels.  The inability to go up and down floors is seriously limiting my building options.

Did it work before?

Did you change something in your Dwarf Fortress installation? (There's at least one popular mod that switches the up/down keys to the numpad)?

Does it work if you reassign the keys?

Have you installed a graphics set? One of them comes in a pack with the game and changes some of the controls.
