Author Topic: Fey dwarves should have more deadlier options than simply going on rampage.  (Read 3950 times)

When a fey/possessed/secretive dwarf fails they are limited to either extreme depression, madness, or going on a rampage.

I think that dwarves that fail fey moods should stalk others that completed theirs and then atempt to murder them in their sleep, or something along those lines, in their jelousy.

I think it adds more depths to the game by adding another kind of madness.

I like that.

Maybe a failed fey mood could sometimes turn into a macabre mood. That's the one where the dwarf butchers another one to make their artifact right? I have to say I have never had the honor of having one. But anyway, a failed fey mood could, rarely, turn into a macabre mood, where the targets are more likely to be other dwarfs that have created artifacts or other highly skilled dwarfs.

I would enjoy, when fires are fixed, for arson to happen.

Urist McFailMood: They will see, they will ALL see! The fire will cleanse this fortress of the ones who deprive me of my things. I will create an artifact from the charred remains of them! The artifact will be FIRE ITSELF!

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I believe that's a fell mood.  Macabre just wants dwarf parts, I think.

Perhaps a dwarf that fails a possessed mood has the possessing entity take complete control of the dwarf, imbuing him with great and terrible power.
Then... Vengeance.

Macabre just wants any parts, really.
Could give them anything from turtle bones to elven bones.

Ahh, fey mood it is then. Unfortunately, I have never gotten such a mood.

Perhaps a possessed dwarf who fails would become melancholy as normal. However, while depressed, something dark would be growing in his soul. Eventually the possessing entity would transform the dwarf into a demon most foul.

Another addition for failed moods is that the affected dwarf... just gets over it. Hang on for a minute. You might enjoy this.

For this to work, I don't think we should have any indication of a dwarf's mood. We could get an indication that the dwarf enters a strange mood, but [v]ing that dwarf wouldn't show it. If that mood is failed, you have no idea if the dwarf just gets over the loss, enters a macabre/fell mood, goes insane, is secretly stalking someone else, etc.

Imagine the shock when little Onul fails a mood but seems to be getting along fine for two months. You're fending off the latest goblin siege when you get a message. Tosid has drowned! Knowing that that shouldn't happen, you zoom to his corpse to see that he is face-down in the well. Checking the scene, you find Onul walking quietly away.

Failed Fey and Possessed dwarves should get possessed by the angry forces that were guiding them and become 'roided out superdwarves that can destroy buildings (namely doors) and bring their vengeance down on the pathetic fortress that could not live up to their vision! I would like having a reason to have a functioning military early on. Or they could fail and seemingly "recover" but have a chance to secretly start doing the stalking mentioned in a previous post.

edit: mephisto basically covered this while I was typing!

"Gee Urist, you look rather disgruntled today!"
"Yea, I think I am. Say, you recall all the times I joked about them stationing you next to a chasm?"
"Yes, why?"
*shove*
"AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa......."
 ;D

Could we have "witch trials"? One dwarf is angry enough he accuses another dwarf of something to get the other killed? With witness-dwarves to testify against/for such acts of violence in court?

This may be too far, but some of them could get followers...  I'm thinking of Sander Cohen here.

Here's another interesting thought. Rather then going into a life ending depression or madness, some dwarves just have major personality shifts after failing to make an artifact. Have them basically get a whole new personality set generated. Something like:

Urist FailedArtifact used to be cheerful and outgoing but a little disorganized, now he avoids crowds and likes making lists and organizing things.

They could even have a change of liked items.

"Urist, I thought you loved copper?!"
"Copper? How can I stand to look at copper again? I had a wonderous vision of a copper flood gate, but it couldn't be done. I like lead, better. It's duller, and doesn't mock me for my failure."

It could also be reversed: from then on, Urist might hate copper instead of liking it, and if he has acquired items made of his formerly favored metal he will then try to dispose of them, or randomly toss objects into the smelter or so.

One very "deadly" option is that a dwarf that fails a mood will go into another "mood." Or rather, the dwarf convinces himself that he is in a mood. He thinks he is inspired, but really is not. His false vision, might, and infact probably, will involve another artifact that has already been built.

You might end up with a dilapidated mug encrusted with gems and with twisted menacing spikes of an artifact steel sword. The false artifact would be worthless and ruin the other one.

Not sure if I explained that well but I am sick in bed so can't be moved to care about anything too much right now.
