World generation handicap modifier for..stuff

Generating worlds is fun, but sometimes you just need to tip the scales in favor of one side or another to get that "perfect" little world you want. My suggestion is a simple one - a "handicap" modifier for a civilization/creature/whatever to make it a little more resilient to the rigors of time during world generation. My inspiration for this? Mario Kart.

You see, two players start but one isn't very good, so has has his opponent play with a handicap so the race is more even - the better player moves slower. In the end the race is evened - or in my proposed suggestion, "bent" or "skewed" in favor of something.

In the context of Dwarf Fortress, I've already kinda...explained. Basically it will give specific creatures a leg up. Like Dragons? DRAGONS ARE ULTRA SURVIVABLE! Like marmots? MARMOTS ARE ULTRA RESILIENT THROUGH HISTORY! and so on and so forth. Naturally this wouldn't...really, effect adventure mode's combat, merely the history leading to that combat. The end population.

And so my suggestion ends. Mainly I considered this because I wanted to see more dragons....then I thought about it...and maybe I wanted to see more Yeti too. And here we are.

With that I think the world gen option "% dead megabeats" shouldn't be a % of the original ones.  My worlds ALWAYS lose 80% of their original population by year 200.  What it could be is a percentage of "all dead" to "all that were ever alive" (or "all dead + all living," it's the same thing).

Then, once dragons, and the other megas reproduce, 80% dead will be a LONG time.

I like this. The elves need a bit of a buff to make it past constant wars with people that don't eat their fallen foes.

So on the advanced options screen, there would be an option to show some love to a race, and that would add a multiplier to their size and whatnot for world-gen? I'm not sure.
Toady could beef up the rejection criteria; adding an elf check to the "playable race" check and so on.

Oh, yeah. An "All Civs Still Alive [Yes/No] option would be neat.

Can someone explain that "elves are cannibals" thing, cause I have never seen one (I think it may be the history thing with "this elf devoured that dwarf").

It is that history thing. Basically, eating a fallen enemy is kosher for the pointy-eared hippies (hey, they're already dead right?). So they war on someone who mistreated animals or plants or whatever, and then everyone wars on them for eating a sentient creature.

Yeah, they think that it's okay to eat your fallen foes because that's what animals do. They don't waste stuff.

A lot of the time we're using "cannibal" loosely, in that a lot of the time they're eating dwarves, humans and goblins rather than elves.
At the moment, elves don't kill and cook their kin for sustenance or as ritual Force worship, but at the rate they're going, that's probably going to be in the next release.

Would solve some of the 'too damn many elves' problems

Yes, while the intention is to curtail/help specific creatures, it's not really meant to "fix" existing perceived problems. Toady obviously has his intentions for design and I merely would like to alter the end result to be more pleasing for the user.
