[39e] Miner stuck on a ramp one Z-level below a drawbridge
« on: July 29, 2008, 01:04:47 pm »

A miner got stuck on a ramp one Z-level below a drawbridge. He was supposed to remove that ramp, but instead cancelled the job with the reason "dangerous terrain". After that he was unable to move anywhere.

Z +1

Z 0

There were three ramps in there, and two of them were removed without any problems by other miners. Raising the bridge and drafting the stuck dwarf didn't help, and he refused to attempt to remove the ramp, as did other miners.

I managed to free him by removing the wall to his right.

Without a fluid present, the only way to get that message seems to be being stuck in a wall or being stuck in a square without a path component.  Unless the dwarf is somehow standing in a wall, it's probably the latter.  Do you have a save?  I doubt I'll be able to get a cause, but at least I'd be able to see if there's problems with the path components.

I'll need the region folder in some kind of zip/rar/7z, and any new objects that were added to the raw folder.  If it's less than 20 megs, you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com.  You can also try The Dwarf Fortress File Depot which has a special section for bugged saves.

Unfortunately I don't have a save. I was just messing around with the mass constructions.

I tried to replicate the bug but ran into more bugs that prevented me from successfully getting the miner stuck. I might have found the reason why he was stuck, though.

Constructing an ice wall on the same tile as a carved ice ramp (and then removing the constructed wall) doesn't seem to destroy the ramp below. It does destroy the downwards slope one tile above, but the upwards slope stays. This got one of my miners stuck, as he was able to climb the ramp up but was then unable to go down again.

Also, removing the upwards ramp after that turns the tile into nothingness. Any items that were on the tile will still hang in there, but [k] won't show anything. And the tile can't be pathed through.

It appears that the bridge had nothing to do with this. Except maybe it was the bridge that was preventing the dwarf from going up the slope he was stuck on.

*Cough*
Duh the first two were removed without issues:
There was a third one they could still walk up!

No bug here that I can see.
