Adventure World Ideas
« on: July 28, 2008, 07:59:55 pm »

Has anybody found a way to get a world with megabeasts that isn't in the year 1-20?  Most of the world's I've generated that allowed me to hunt megabeasts end in about year 8, and the cities are under construction and there are no roads or shops or even city capitols, just some half constructed hovels.

Is there a way to make a world where megabeasts survive into the 100th year or so?

Also, what would be a good set of parameters to get a world with some wars going on?  Usually the worlds I gen have such crazy overlapping areas of influence that you can't tell who is who and everybody is mixed with everybody else.  Sure, it's neat, but it'd be nice to be able to pick a side and go off to try and influence the world for them.

Any hints/tips on maximizing the new parameter tools to make a fun world to adventure in?

Normally, I put in about 4 times the normal number of caves, and only 75% of the standard civ amount.

I also generated a fairly interesting world by starting with a pocket world, making the changes above, then quitting, editing worldgen.txt to put the dimensions at 129x129, and THEN generating.  That one got to 485.

I have a very simple method for keeping all my megabeasts.  I have two creature_standard.txt files.  One is the normal, unedited one, and the other has the size for all (semi)megabeasts set at 50.  I use the beefed up one during world gen, then swap them back when it's time to actually play.

Every single one of my megabeasts lives until 1050 (or whatever other year I decide to go to).  The adventurer games are crazy.  Most of them have 10+ kills by the time my adventurer goes up against them, and I almost never beat them since they're so experienced.

I also set number of caves to 200.  There's so many megabeasts anyway that many of them have to share caves.  I've seen as many as five giants living together in one!

Not quite so easy for me to keep megabeasts as you ...

I set size to 50 and set the filter to 25%, the world gave up in year 37, so i set the size to 100 and i can usually make it to about year 500 with only 40% loss, but by no means 100%...

i did have some success making heavily populated metropolis type medium size worlds, with almost entirely urban road connected areas
