[39e] Catch Live Fish = Broken?
« on: July 28, 2008, 05:39:10 pm »

I cued up a few "Catch Live Fish" jobs at the fishery (I'm not sure why though... dwarves seem to love eating captured vermin) and left it at that while I tended other things. I later noticed a fisherdwarf standing in the carpenter's workshop, holding a wooden cage. All is good right? Well, he's been standing there for quite a long while, not moving from the spot. And yes, it shows he is trying to do the job from the [v] menu.

I do believe this is similar to how hunters will just stop moving, with the Hunt job, out in the open, when there are no animals to hunt.
Are you sure there are any fish he can catch?
"Vermin" fish are better off caught with bare hands.
"Animal" fish are better off catching dwarvesdead.

Alright, so it looks like the fisherdwarf found something better to do. An interesting development has occurred now. It appears that another fisherdwarf is using a trap that was already near the fishing zone. We'll have to wait and see if he catches anything.

I still get this in 40d. Fisherdwarves just stand motionless over the traps. All the while I can see plenty of fish in my brook and pools. Normal fishing (resulting in dead rather than live fish) works just fine.

I think that the catching live fish job should be given to the trapper instead of the fisherdwarf anyways. The fishers prefer killin' fish, and when they do finally catch a live one, some dwarf goes and eats it....

If the trapper did it, at least you'd be able to catch enough live fish for some to survive long enough for you to get them in the appropriate aquarium and forbid them.

Does anybody still have a save where the dwarf is just sitting there doing nothing?

I sure do. I've mailed it to you with a description of the fisherdwarf and fishery in question.

Again, thanks for taking a look at this and good luck solving it! :)

I just noticed that I get literally over a 100,000 entries like this in my gamelog.txt:

Fath Siknugducim, Fisherdwarf cancels Store Item in Stockpile: Handling dangerous creature.
Fath Siknugducim, Fisherdwarf cancels Handling Large Creature: Animal inaccessible.

Fath Siknugducim is the dwarf doing the "Catch Live Fish" task.
