Winning is chilled out
« on: July 28, 2008, 04:13:59 pm »

All dwarves are ecstatic from the slightest good thought. Sieges are dealt with by 3 wrestlers. And a novice stonecrafter can produce enough to buy everything the caravans have to offer. This game is no NetHack.

I wouldn't mind having to start again once in a while other than from the always fatal FPS invasion.

This game isn't supposed to be a nethack.  Where did you get that idea?

"Winning" also isn't possible.  All endings to a fort are loss conditions.

But I agree that parts of the game are too easy if you game it like that.

Oh god...do you realize that this is alpha? The majority of the planned features are not even implemented.  ::)

PS. How did you managed to create this constructive post in the suggestions subforum?

I know it's not nethack, but 'losing is fun' implies that you ought to lose as much.
As for loss conditions, there are more loss conditions in Sim City.

I realise this is an alpha and am as always looking forward to future releases.

The constructive part is the second paragraph of the OP. The first is background/evidence.

I've never played halo, what's it like? I am an ace at Doom2 though if you're up for a challenge.

If you're waiting for future releases, why are you complaining now?

Torak I don't see why you're pointing to the paragraph link, judging by the =/= (which I don't fucking understand btw) you aren't a stickler for proper english constructions, so I figure you aren't being pedantic about my use of the word paragraph to describe the 2nd part of my post.

If you are being a pedant, which you obviously are you fucking contradictory cunt, you obviously didn't even read the shit you just linked to. A quote from said page:
Quote
A paragraph can be as short as one word or run the length of multiple pages, and may consist of one or many sentences.

You'd also be better off quoting Websters or Oxford too if you're inclined toward proper english.

If it's some other triviality you're referring to I suggest you get out more and see how people actually talk to each other. We don't fucking spew non-partisan essay links at each other.

=/= is an equals sign with a slash through it.
As in, NOT EQUAL TO.
He's saying that is not a paragraph.
Therefore your statement
you aren't a stickler for proper english constructions,
is quite the opposite as a paragraph, when done correctly, IS a proper English (Capitalized...) "construction."

Anyway, my faith is somewhat restored, I just had a bad siege where I lost 7 dwarves and would've lost far more hadn't the goblins been so cowardly and retreated so soon. They had me.

Anytime someone uses the word "pedantic" in their arguments I think of family guy and stop taking them seriously. I may also point and/or laugh.

Fortunately for us with patience, everything that you are complaining about(except the FPS) are parts of systems that will be improved.

I was pointing out the irony of picking up on some percieved flaw in my use of the word paragraph and his use of the term =/=.

Sorry, obviously one sentence paragraphs =/= proper English ftw.

Sorry, Wikipedia is not a proper source.
Dictionary:
par·a·graph /ˈpærəˌgræf, -ˌgrɑf/ [par-uh-graf, -grahf]
–noun
1.   a distinct portion of written or printed matter dealing with a particular idea, beginning with an indentation on a new line.
2.   a paragraph mark.
3.   a note, item, or brief article, as in a newspaper.
–verb (used with object)
4.   to divide into paragraphs.
5.   to write or publish paragraphs about, as in a newspaper.
6.   to express in a paragraph.

I see no indentation.
Please, just drop this.
It's not worth it to be fighting over this.
It's not a proper paragraph, no, but being a grammar nazi isn't helping anybody.
Excessive swearing also not helping anybody.

I was pointing out the irony of picking up on some percieved flaw in my use of the word paragraph and his use of the term =/=.

Sorry, obviously one sentence paragraphs =/= proper English ftw.
His use of the symbol for "not equal to" was both warranted and perfectly within the rules of proper shorthand English.
