Yeah, the problem is that when the first made them, they were just Dwarves in Spaaaaace! And while that's cool for a gimmick, it doesn't give them much individuality and uniqueness. They had some interesting things that could of been built on, but Games Workshop just decided that it'd be too much work to move them beyond their 'joke' status, and just ignored them. People kicked up a stink, they ignored them too, and then just said 'nerp, they gots eaten lolz' and closed the book on that. The problem wasn't that they weren't popular, it's just that the developers never took them seriously. Which in turn made them become unpopular, because they weren't getting the attention required or investments made into their rules, background, and model line.

Of course, then the Demiurg were introduced in Battlefleet Gothic, and guess what - Dwarves in Spaaaaaaaace! are back. Not in any big way, but if the Squats were ever going to come back, it'd be through them.

And all those psykers who die every day?  They're not powering his throne, they're victims of typical dwarven justice when a conquered planet mandate reaches its end unfulfilled.  Why do you think the inquisitors all carry hammers?

The space dwarves have devoted their lives to keeping this secret safe from the more common inhabitants of Terra, the humans.  Since they are in fact different species, the dwarves feel no remorse in purging "heretical" humans who happen to be on the same planet that the dwarves are capturing.

The forces of Chaos are just the result of the enormous adamantine motherlode that the dwarves dug up millenia ago, and that's why the "Space Marines" are so intent on destroying them.  Nurgle is one friggin' huge frog demon, and Tzeentch is lord of tentacle demons (Slaanesh happened to butt in on their creation, which led to those interesting "corrupt intentions").

Any more questions?</STRONG>

Dwarfs with Sniper Rifles... oh the possibilities

How long did it take you to think of all that?  Cause I love me some 40K but damn.

And now I have some new mod ideas.  Great.

Say, will anybody here be getting in on Warhammer Online?  It'd be great to find out they put some kind of DF reference in it.

As long as it took to write it.  Every now and again, something comes along that just fits.  I was trying to find some way of placing dwarves in WH40k, and I got one.

As for this whole guess-the-game mess, I say we band together and provide the answer as a community.  It will show just how close of a community we are, and although there's no chance of them awarding beta tester passes to all of us, we can still have fun with the thought of it.

And they damn well should have DF references in there.

So, do we like write a group letter and everyone puts their tag on it or what?

That sounds good. I say if we get it, we ask that they have to name a Dwarf NPC Urist   ;) And dress him in colour-coded clothes appropriate to his profession, of course.

I bet they'd do it, in exchange for there being no one to give a beta pass to or something like that.

But having more beta testers is good... assuming they actually, er, test.

Most people just use the beta period as a way to play the game for free before release  :p

Well, that's why we should try and make the point clear that we would actually test the beta.  Having a whole community testing something can be a great boon to the devs, provided they actually report the bugs they're testing.

One of the best ways of finding bugs is when you've got a buddy to help you out with it.  Especially if he's the one who gets hit by the giant supersonic brick of DOOM that you just pried loose from the wall.

Yes, and I'd like to apologize for the noise I made when it hit me. And the farting. Couldn't be helped.
