If you play it backwards Freddie Mercury espouses the virtues of cannabis.

The funny thing is, this happens when you play it forwards as well :P

If anyone here has seen the anime Death Note...well, I was listening to the soundtrack as I started up a new fort.  Looking through my dwarves' personality/relationships, I found one of them worshipped 'Kirar'.  Coincidence?

('Kira' being the name of a god-like figure in the anime).

This here link leads to a neat-o MP3 that seems rather in keeping with the DWAAARF FORTRESS theme.

Dwarf Fortress Mode:
Under the Lonely Mountain from that animated adaption of The Hobbit

Adventure Mode:
The Greatest Adventure, from the same movie.

Alright, maybe not all the time, but they are fitting songs.

I can't seem to listen to anything but instrumental music, unless the singing doesn't even sound like words at all.

Anything epic, leave it to Immediate Music

Isn't that the song that plays when you've been detected in Metal Gear Solid?

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

the Urquan Masters Remixes
There is no hyperlink for the individual tracks, but I like the Urquan(now and forever) and Ilwrath very much for when FPS is low and doom imminent.  :'(
(goto DOWNLOAD MUSIC at the top of the page, select a song, then download again)

culture #19 is nice, but un-DF.
'the Ultron' is also nice and morose.

...ah wait.

I love that song, Areyar. I first heard it in a YTMND, with a picture of a very evil looking cat. Then I followed up on the source and played The Ur-Quan Masters over one very epic weekend. Great stuff.

I actually shivered when I first played Star Control 2. The original Star Control was one of my all-time favorite games; one of very few games, in fact, that I had ever played. The Ur-Quan were the shite in that game. So, when I started SC2 and plodded my way through the Solar system, only to find Earth encased in a red bubble, I was understandably confused. Then, that probe scuttled over, and that music started, and I was physically shaken by the knowledge that Earth had fallen to the Ur-Quan. One hell of a game.

I'm going to say that I don't like the way that started.  When that evil prob stopped me and said, "Leave before we kill you."  I took it at it's word and ran like hell out of the Solar System, only to be instantly killed by Slylandro probes.  I had to read a FAQ to know, "Oh, I'm supposed to ignore the probe and dink around with the Ur'Quan's stuff."  Apparently, I'm suicidally polite.
