[39E] Jobs broken again
« on: July 27, 2008, 08:37:14 am »

So I started up a new fortress.  Firstly, in the skills section, my dwarves could gain military skills or administrative skills, but nothing like mining, woodcutting, farming, cooking etc.

I arrive at my destination, select[V] to start assigning duties and...

I cannot make a dwarf mine.  Or chop wood.  Or build workshops.  Or make shit.  Or build walls.  Or do anything except hauling, cleaning and healthcare.

So I have a band of 7 dwarves who are just going to sit here, eating and drinking, until resources run out and they die.  (I tried just assigning dig squares and trees to be cut, but my dwarves still just sat there amongst the food and booze and picks and battleaxes I'd brought along, doing sweet FA).

Please can this be fixed?  I effectively cannot go dorfing like this. :-[ :'(

Someone else reported a similar bug when he? embarked at a goblin fortress.  Also, this is going to sound asinine, but did you remember to bring a pick and an ax?

2 picks and an axe!

Also, I checked nearby civs, etc and only dwarves and elves were nearby.

Has this occurred to you prior to [39e]? The only thing I can think of is the designation isn't working properly. Can you provide a save?

Previous versions didn't have this problem for me, and I saved 39E into a new folder, anyway.

Can sort out a save for you; how do I upload it?

You can use any online file storage, the first thing that comes up for me is megaupload. Also, this occurred to me just now. My brewer refused to do any work concerning alcohol. It turned out, my still was forbidden, perhaps you need to reclaim all your items.

The last time someone reported a bug like this it involved a modded player civilization; the dwarves had accidentally lost the ability to conduct those jobs.  Make sure that's not the case.

This is weird; is the option to train a war muskox a new feature?  Or is there sommat wrong with my download?

These, and the noble-type persuading etc jobs are the only ones I can train my dorfs to.

And thus, they sit there, eating and drinking until they die.

Sorry, still no save uploaded; will get one asap, but hopefully this will give you an idea re: what I mean.

PS- sorry, uploading photos on here- used the [img] option and it did nowt.

It doesn't look necessary to need a save. Your game most certainly seems modded. When downloading this game, did you just extract it over the previous file? I'd suggest completely starting anew via downloading [39e] again and extracting it onto a new file.

Yes, something is definitely wrong there, if you haven't installed any mods. You probably did something wrong when you installed it, like extracting it over a previous version of DF instead of into a new folder.
