Smelting
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:34:29 am »

Hello all.

I'm attempting to set up my first full scale metallurgy operation. The premise is I'm on a map with chalk, and magma. I have not found any free ore to date. I am attempting to melt down the iron armor of the numerous goblin raids and smelt steel. I have several iron bars now, and lots and lots of flux, by my magma smelter isn't giving me the option to make pig iron. Any suggestions?

Nevermind, I missed the bit where magma smelters still require coke  >:(

That's just silly that you need fuel when you have LAVA

I think if you edit a message within a very short period of orginally posting it it doesn't say "edit on".  Let's test that theory...

EDIT: Testing.

It's just for making steel. Steel is just iron with a high carbon content, and you get that from adding the coke. You need less fuel since you don't use any coal for heat, just for carbonizing, but you still need some.
