I've survived having my brain mangled! It wasn't even a mortal wound.

The more you know about Dwarven physiology...

(I survived having my brain mangled! - in case you needed a translation)

It causes permanent brain damage... imagine talking to a mentally disabled person wearing plate mail and carrying weapons.

I don't think you can just walk off mortal wounds anymore...
I was playing version 0.28.181.39d and my character lost his right hand.  I thought, "No sweat, I'll just pick up the glove, Travel a little bit, and put the glove back on."

I travel, and the hand is still missing!

If hands don't grow back, I doubt lungs will.

Mangled is red, and missing is grey. If something is mangled, it's healed by travel, if it's grey, it will never heal, such as an eye.

I remember mangling a wolf's brain. He could no longer stand up. I think the wiki says that certain nervous injuries make you unable to attack.

Oh yeah I forgot about paralysis! Right so I guess I will just have to avoid it then...

heh, theres no real way to avoid it when you think about it, just random chance that you could take a headshot.

Well you can avoid creatures that bludgeon, pierce, and gore(I think)
Wouldent a slashing enemy just cut your head off or something?

No matter how protected you are, certain parts on the body can't be fully protected. Joints especially. The neck is the best example - any armor needs to leave the neck free to move, but as a result that plate-armored warrior can be beheaded frighteningly easily even after shrugging off wounds that would kill someone lesser armored.

Well what about amulets? Those go around your neck...
But I wouldent think they would do much to defend you.

I'm suprised that there isn't any neck protection to the plate mail, I've seen all sorts of armour have neck protection.

Well, there probably is some protection, but maybe 30% of the neck is covered at most.

Heavy plate armor can have metal collars protecting the neck from attacks from the rear and the sides.Usually, only chainmail head covers or the helmet's "chin" protect the wearer's neck from the front.
