Synaesthete: Unbelievable game fusing sound and visuals
« on: July 25, 2008, 07:34:52 pm »

I'm taking a break from this game after two levels because my fingers need a break, but it's fantastic.  It's called "Synaesthete" and it's incredible.  It's a sort of combination of guitar hero and a 3d shmup.  It's hard to explain, just download it and play it.  Very, very cool game.

You can get it here: https://typo3.digipen.edu/index.php?id=986

Yes!  I like this one.  They promised updates after IGF, though.  I want 'dem updates, damnit.

This game is pretty cool. The synaesthesia is not too bad, though you kinda loose the 'groove' as you are going between different rooms. The scaling difficulty and the random level generation make for some decent replayability.

If you like this you should really try 'Rez'. In my opinion it is far more awesome. You get so entranced you forget to blink.

Oh god, I spent hours playing that game till my fingers ached then the next day I picked it up again... after a while I managed to do every level on the impossible difficulty and it got a little old, but it's an awesome game.

Haven't played this "rez" though. I'll look that up.

I just beat it on Trivial, which was pretty easy, but also pretty intense.  The only thing I don't like is the slow parts of songs where you don't get many notes.  Trying to dodge baddies while waiting for more notes is a pain!  I can imagine that this would be much worse on a harder level...

I also assume that the harder levels unlock more spells?  I still see a lot of locked slots...

Yikes.

I just got through the tutorial and two levels, and I was reminded why I sucked so hard at Guitar Hero.  I have absolutely no sense of rythm, and I can't keep my eyes on enough stuff at once to know the keys to press and avoid enemies.  Not to mention I can never figure out exactly where the sweet spot is for button timing.

I suppose with practice I could do a rythm game.  I would recommend this to anyone who plays them though - nice to add a gameplay element, however simple.

Kinda funny though.  I had a dream once that looked exactly like this game.

Anyone heard of Audiosurf?  This sounds similar.

This one's more of a isometric shooter and rhythm game mix.

wow. That was awesome. I usually don't play "press the buttons as they appear on screen" style games, but this one was worth it. Maybe the fact that it's actually a game with the button mashing as only a small part of the overall equation.

It recommends in the tutorial that you only do one, maybe two tracks at once, I have to really concentrate to do all three.

I picked it up again and I'm going to do all the levels again on the hard difficulty.

Oh gawd, it's the perfect game. All that time spent playing Stepmania has paid off. Everything about this game... damn. Just... awesome.

Edit: I'm still hitting J, K and L after I've finished playing... to whatever music I'm listening to.

Well to be fair it is the most powerful special in the game, I mean kill all enemies is pretty potent.
