I had no idea the wiki was powered by one man's pocket.  Considering how much I rely on it, if I had a dime to spare (and a pay-pal account) I'll donate as soon as you make a way to.

But throw in all the Google ads you can fit.  Since they're based on the page's text, the DF wiki will attract some very interesting ads.

(Not really)

So I'll be paying about $15/month for the site, it's not too bad after all. I won't ask for donations but I may eventually put Google ads or something - all the extra money I would make will go to Tarn Adams of course.

I don't know Wikia or other free services but I don't mind paying for now.

Do please feel free to ask for the occasional donation from the players.

I wouldn't even know how to play DF without the wiki, and would never enjoy it as much as I do now as a result.

Think of it as a tip jar

I don't really want to request donations so I'll give Google ads a try. I've added a vertical banner to the left bar, I'll see what happens. You can easily block it with Adblock anyway, if it bothers you.

Noticed something, the lendemaindeveille one has the ads,but the dwarffortresswiki one doesn't and is the one the link above each forum leads to.So most users will never see the ads.

Glad to see that it's up; and I'm eager to see what kind of insane Google ads start showing up. Context-sensitive ads are hilarious sometimes. I hope they help to offset the cost a bit.

Thanks again!

I never thanked you.  I didn't know who put up the wiki.

Thanks to you I learned how to play, and thanks to you I learned how to mod.  I still visit the wiki regularly to check syntax, color numbers and the character table. (secondary thanks to th folks who did them)

I will happily click on an ad on every page I visit.

Yes indeed, a thank you is in order. Thank you very much for hosting the wiki!

While the wiki's back up, the utils section still isn't.

It was the refresh cache thing. Thought that if the main wiki page worked I wouldn't need to refresh the cache. I was wrong.

So generated income is a function of number of clicks on those links?
With a ceiling on clicks from same IP on same day?
Is it enough to click the link, let the tab pop up, then close it, or is income also a function of actual traffic around the advertisers site?

I guess I could find all this info on
Google:"google ads", and infact, I already partly did, but this post also has a didactic purpose.
