[39c] Problem building Grates
« on: July 24, 2008, 08:13:51 pm »

I don't recall any problems with building a grate in the fashion shown in the screen shot in versions prior to 39a.  I did not test this with 39a and 39b.  This screen shot is from 39c and is showing that the bridge and the nearby grate are not considered in the construction.

Checking other constructions bridges seem to still be considered as supporting, I didn't test the supportiveness of grates, but they used to be non-supporting.

Bridges don't work for support for grates or constructed walls/floors.

Even if you try to build walls/floors on bridges all they do is collapse and suck the poor construction worker in the pit.

Furthermore, grates and hatches absolutely MUST be built either next to a wall or floor, or directly on top of a floor or stairs tile. Even if you fill the level underneath a bunch of hatches with supports, and then remove the floors that the hatches were built next to, the supports will NOT hold up the hatches. (And anyone on them will plummet to their doom, falling right through the supports on the level below, unless of course there happen to be floors on the same tile as said supports, in which case they'll probably live :P)

And yes, I really did go to the effort of clearing out and tiling a sizable area with floorless supports (without cheating) to find that out. :P
