[39e] Broken pathfinding
« on: July 24, 2008, 04:05:20 pm »

Hello.
I was trying to reproduce the trick with aquifer and pums - http://mkv25.net/dfma/movie-120-aquifercmv

The following 2 related problems were found:

I have partially constructed pump room and partially dug out channels. I've noticed that my engeneer cant exit to surface, although the way was present. Eventually he died of hunger, I've load my saved game and tried to save him - by making floor of wood over the channel. The haulers of this wood behave strangely too - they moved not optimally, but like that: (entrance)1-2-3-4-5-6(destination)

#              6
#~~
#+m5~
1+2m~>
#+mm~>
#Gmm~>
#G34

save is here http://rapidshare.com/files/132195761/save.zip.html 9MB

I've noticed messed up pathfinding as well.

It's not gamebreaking, but it's VERY frustrating.

Especially when they are carrying something, then they drop it and arbitrarily stop working.

The aren't on a break, or eating or anything, it simply says "no job".

I'm downloaded it, and I'll take a look at some point, but I don't understand the diagram at all.

It took me a second read, but the legend for it appears to be:
1 - Where the dorf came in.
2-5 - His walking pattern, in that order.
6 - His destination, where he eventually arrived.

Yes. The way between waypoints is straight line. It was possible to walk 1-6 in a straight line.

The others symbols:
m - machine(series of pumps)
~ - water
G - ground
# - wall
> - down stairs
+ - wooden floor
This is almost copy of design shown in video.
