I think more along the lines of +Monitor+, -Keyboard-, ≡Processor≡, *RAM*, +Graphics Card+, Hard drive, ≡Brain≡, *Hands*. Some would argue that ≡Imagination≡ would be required, but I think it's an integral part of ≡Brain≡.

I think they call it Dwarf Fortress because the people (like me) sit underground and play the game for hours on end.

Eww.  No, too reminiscent of Fantasy Football, etc.

Besides, the other half of the title is also flawed: Adventure Mode has almost nothing to do with fortresses.</STRONG>

I would argue that ≡Imagination≡, though a part of ≡Brain≡, is not necessarily present in each one. There are people out there with «¤Brain¤» but ‼XXImaginationXX‼.

This is a fox skull helmet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of fox bone and is encircled with bands of fox leather. This item is haunted by the ghost of Alfador Angrorung the fox.

I believe that would make it a !!XX¤«¤Brain¤»¤XX!!. Also, longest possible quality designation in the game. Longest ever designation would be !!{(XX¤«¤Brain¤»¤XX)}!!, for when it's imported and forbidden.

A burning, mangled, imported, forbidden, nano-cyber-enhanced brain of a true genius? Sounds like some time machine experiment gone awry, and the result was bought off or stolen by another country and sealed away to prevent misuse.  :D

Sounds like an Anime.

I personally think it should somehow encompass Moria in the title. I mean, this game was first described as a Moria Simulator.

But then we'll have to answer stupid questions every week from people expecting this to be a LoTR game and asking why their White Wizards mandated oliphant bone goods and punished their Ringbearer for not fulfilling it.

There's already a rogue-like with 'Moria' in the title.

This is all you need to know that Dwarf Fortress is the most appropriate name:
"Hey, what game are you playing?"
"DWARF FORTRESS!"

Y'all are forgetting the most important thing - Dwarf Fortress has name recognition.  Sure, it doesn't have the consumer numbers yet, but it's well known throughout the industry and press.

Well known my ass.  A tiny handful of bloggers have done articles on it, and a few see-we're-cool-too mainstream news sites, but I can think a loads of indie-is-always-better-games-are-art columnists out there who've never mentioned it, along with all the big game news sites.  That every one of them isn't shouting DF's praises from the highest rooftops is a tragedy.
