Alright. Got to the 14th of Malachite.
--------------------------------------------------------
The log of Eita, leader of the Eternal Halls from the year 112 to 113.
1st Granite: I’d just like to make three things clear. One, Eita is a pseudonym, which is why I put no last name. Two, the entrance to this fortress, the so-called ‘Eternal Halls’ is covered in a river of vomit. My entrance felt like it should’ve been done in a boat instead of on foot. Three, yes, points one and two are related.
Now then, I was sent by the military of our glorious nation by our wise monarchs to continue the work of a former ruler. That work, as one might guess, was to finish construction on the fortifications of the fortress. I dived into this work with gusto, and found that my predecessor had done work worthy of the name of such a fortress. However, I saw many spots that were, for lack of a better word, death traps.
I also seem to have inherited some mandates that are impossible to fulfill, as is the norm. The Hammerer wishes for an ‘item’ in his bedroom, and the tax collector craves pig iron bars, or rather pig iron items, the only real thing that fulfills this being said bars. Unfortunately, the site has no flux, and we seem to have none saved up from the last caravan.
The nobles here are also remarkably tolerant. By their standards they reside in slums, the grand mausoleum of their dreams a mere regular mausoleum. I’ve ordered the expansion of the rooms in question, save for the Duchess’ bedroom, where such a thing would impinge upon other rooms. As such, I’ve instead ordered an artifact armor stand built in her room.
20th Granite: Yet another impossible mandate, this time from the Duke Consort, who wishes for bronze bars, a joy, seeing as we have no tin.
7th Slate: The elves came, and left moments after. Evidently some buffoon attempted to trade them an entire bin full of stone goods, forgetting that the container itself is actually made of wood.
16th Felsite: Oh, oh dear. I am afraid to say that I have accidentally deleted a good deal of the notes that were placed by former rulers. No matter, I shall remedy this soon enough. Oh also, Atis Fathzefon, a Metalsmith was struck down for not constructing the tax collector’s pig iron items. Mere moments later said tax collector announced that he was making a mandate for pig iron items.
18th Felsite: An engraver called Esthan Ginetlogem has gone stark raving mad, and is now running around babbling. I hear that this is from the fact that vegetation defaced one of his works. Also, a dog by the name of Erith Sazirigath was killed by a trap. I’ve seen the dog limping about, and I’m rather surprised that he was not struck down earlier.
In more unsettling news, we’ve run out of booze. I’ve ordered the breweries to correct this problem.
23rd Felsite: We’ve… we’ve run out of barrels. No barrels means no booze. I… I never believed the horror stories about forts that this has happened to. The carpenters I hear have done nothing to fix this problem themselves, so I’ve given them a push in the right direction.
27th Felsite: A mandate of the mayor’s to make backpacks has been completed. Barrel, and therefore booze production is well under way. A miner by the name of Sizik, who I am told once ruled this fort has gone stark raving mad. Interestingly, whenever I asked around for him, I was directed to a stray cat. Looking about, I saw stray cats everywhere, and forgetting about the insane miner, I ordered all cats that were without owners to be butchered.
1st Hematite: Another day, a new season, and so far only one dwarf has died. A good spring I’d say. Also, a few weeks ago the Duke Consort ordered some earrings made. That mandate has been fulfilled, but the one for bronze bars is still lingering.
5th Hematite: Ah… uh… It appears that ahem, someone down the line passed me incorrect information. The Duke Consort did not wish for bronze bars, he merely wanted some bronze items.
15th Hematite: I’ve finally found Sizik the miner. It appears that he had gotten himself caught in a cage trap. Once I made this discovery I instantly moved to free him, but not without a military guard. After all, he had gone insane, and I did not know the nature of his malady. Also, the humans came and we traded, some goblin junk for a large supply of meat, booze, and a lone bronze bar.
17th Hematite: Sizik was freed, and mercifully he was merely running around babbling.
20th Hematite: Kobold thief came, was quickly killed by a fisherdwarf.
27th Hematite: For some reason, the Duchess really likes greaves…
12th Malachite: Eshtan, that mad engraver has finally starved to death. Migrants have refused to visit, saying that the fortress is too dangerous this season. I guess fear is lower in spring?
14th Malachite: It’s taken half of summer and all of spring, but the fortress proper is now walled over, preventing goblin archers from firing from above. This was my major goal at the Eternal Halls, and I can now rest easy, turning my eye to more frivolous pursuits.
