I'm picturing the dwarven version of Mister Teatime* from discworld. And that is just five kinds of awesome.

   Operations log: Granite 1, 109

So, apparently I'm going to be the new Chief Organizer. No idea why. It even falls to me, not the so-called record keeper, to keep a definitive journal of events. You know, just in case we all die horribly and someone wants to know why.
I've only just gotten used to the idea, too. First things first: I need a new bedroom. And it has to me MY bedroom, see. So I can keep it as symmetrical as I like.

   Granite 2, 109

My dig order hasn't even been started yet. Now I know lots of folks are busy carrying out standing build orders but isn't at least one miner free? I have requested a comprehensive list of job orders and assignments be made.

   Granite 4, 109

Stockpiles are very full. It's disconcerting but not as bad as it looks. Most of the finished goods piles are filled with stone instruments and narrow clothes that I can offload next time I get the chance. It's a pity a previous ruler saw fit to piss off the humans...
Note: we have PLENTY of tables, doors, and coffins.

   Granite 5, 109

Parties?! What are we, elves!? There is no time for such things. I tell Mr. Whipsubtle that there will be no such distractions while I run things. 'Good dwarves are dying in the war, we need to relax!' he says. 'There's a perfectly good waterfall just over there.' I say. 'In fact, it is a very nice waterfall. And just look at these wonderful tables!' He misunderstands me, as usual. But you know what's different now? What I say goes, and I say no parties.

   Granite 6, 109

Would you look at that? Turns out, there's a huge mining operation going on way down in the deep. I admit that may be more important than my bedroom, but could you really not spare even a one? They haven't found much besides gems yet anyway.

The events of Granite 9, 109

"What do you mean, arrested?" Kishmond was understandably furious. The Guard, however, was unfazed.
"One count of: violation of production order number 26139-A. That's brass items. You didn't make the Sir Consort's brass items."
"I didn't? Are you-- you're kidding, you must be joking."
"'Fraid not, guv. You're coming wif me."
It took a further 3 guards to get Kishmond out of his immaculately clean rented room. That was the way it worked, after all. Kishmond didn't agree, as the whole fortress soon knew.
"Do you know who I am?! I am busy here! Ye gods! BY ANAN THERE WILL BE REPERCUSSIONS!"

Wow, I wasn't expecting that... I hope I don't get hammered to death though it does only say 29 days in prison. I was working on those brass items too.
And this is an interesting fortress. I've had almost this many dwarves before but it's never been, well... such a hellhole.

Region13 knows you're playing it.  It knew exactly which dwarf to haul off.  Given the towering list of pointless-stuff-that-need-doing and general uncaring of these dwarves, I'd be more afraid of you dying of thirst while imprisoned.

Looking at the map, I don't have a clue what all that stuff below the waterway is, but I'm glad to see it's being put to other convoluted uses of some kind.  Also, hey guys, do we have enough balistas yet?  I don't think so!  Seriously, where did those come from?  And that half-designated castle hanging in the air over the trade depot?

I swear this is the most wrecked fort since Boatmurdered.  Which is awesome.  Nice writeup so far, here's hoping it stays interesting.

All those ballista are from my half-a-year turn, as is that half-designated castle. I wanted to leave a good mark on the fortress after my turn, and I think enough ballista to skewer the entire goblin species and the fortifications to go with them is a good mark. I had intended the second level of the 'castle' to be storage space, but I ran out of time.

So, do you guys write the story as you're playing or write notes and the story after? So far I've been writing as I play so I don't miss anything, and my note-taking is so through I might as well do the writeup. That's been going kind of slow, but I don't plan on writing an entry for every 2 in-game days. This is just the introduction.

I take notes, usually on the order of "9th Granite - Stonecrafter tantrummed, killed three cows and a cat" and then write around that.

It would certainly be a long year if you wrote in that detail for each day of it.  Probably better that you are not.

Pop me in at the end. If we get that far send me a PM and I'd love to give a go at this.

wow, you have a shit load of Ballistas....and a few cage and not finished cage traps. Jesus. The entire golbin species might actually use the front door, you know. However, adding additional floors isn't a bad idea. Some more space to place even more crap, and the overload of barrels too.
