How old is this fort, anyway?

Very old I would think...

It's Eternal, after all :P

(Note to self, Stop trying to make crappy Eternal Jokes)

But yeah, this one fort must be the buggiest ever to be created.

Or the most unlucky, not sure

(disregards Chazzy's note to self)

It would be TIMELESS because it's Eternal  ;)

And yeah, its freakin unlucky as hell!

Here's to hoping that it doesn't bug on your turn again, Marineking! :)

To answer the question of "how old", it's probably the only succession fort that is on thirty forum pages with seven complete years of play.

Ach, sorry for taking so long guys. Unavoidable, I assure you. I plan on riding the night out, and should get most of the year done. For now, here is my "opening" post. Since it's a new year, I judged that a new character, with a new personality, was called for.

***

Diary of "Marineking" Atastsazir, new Director of the Eternal Halls. 1st granite, year 108.

I have been informed that, due to circumstances regarding the management of this fortress, I have been chosen to be the manager of all orders and ordeals that occur for a full year. Why me, a lowly trainer of dogs, one might ask (As I certainly have)? I do not know. The man who gave me the note proclaiming this disapeared before I could ask a single question. Regardless, I must say that I am not very distressed by the fact. I have always been better at negotiating with people than with beasts, and I believe I will do this fortress some good in my tenure. I am on my way now to have a tour of the fortress, and I will see what needs done afterwards.

Diary entry, 4th Granite.

After several days of getting to know the place, I must say that I am somewhat unsure of what to think. On the one hand, it is still standing. That is always good. On the other, there are a myriad of strange problems, though thankfully none of them major. There are stones littered all about the place, as if no one could be bothered with picking them up or shoving them into a corner. There is a  ramchackle hut lying out in the wilderness, which is, I have been told, "for him, if he starts acting up again." I've no idea who "he" is, but I felt it best not to pry.

Another problem I've noticed is that I lack a proper place to recieve work requests (And gods, are there enough of those...). I shall have that rectified as soon as possible.

As a matter of fact, I have the new glass furnaces being set up as I write this.

Diary entry, 1st hematite.

It is now the beginning of the new season, and though the air is little changed here inside the earth, it still seems as if the world is a brighter place simply from the knowledge that Summer has arrived. With the season have come more questions, if not more problems.

A glass industry, it seems, is mindbogglingly frustrating to get running, and even more annoying to keep running. Every time I turn my back, the Potash Maker has slacked off, with the pathetic excuse that he "doesn't have any ashes." How hard can it be to find something so simple as ashes, especially when i have twice the number of potash makers burning wood for it! And when the Potash maker slacks off, so does the Pearlash Maker. And then the glass blowers cannot work. Which arises to another problem - gathering enough sand. You wouldn't expect this to be a very difficult task, but at the rate the bags come in, it certainly must be. Despite such problems, I have gotten the initial walls of my new Office completed. I was hoping to dedicate each floor to a particular type of room... but I see now that I do not have the time for that. Hopefully by scaling back the ambition of the project, I can use it before my time here is done.

Glass is always a pain to make.  Clear glass is magnitudes more of a pain.

I'm still holding out hope that the game won't get bugged again.

Diary entry, 9th Hematite.

And now the goblins decide to raid. Well, fine then. I am not averse to a little combat. Especially when I'm in my rooms giving the orders. I have ordered Aqizzar and his men to engage the enemy just outside the doors, with the Marksdwarf squad giving cover. We'll see how this turns out.

Diary entry, 13th Hematite.

The siege has been broken, and with little trouble. They arrived in three parties, each consisting of roughly 13 of the green beasts. The first one moved directly for the entrance, while the others meandered off a little. I sent Aqizzar and his men to deal with the first group, of which they did expediently and without injury. After that, the rest of the cowards fled. I'll admit, my first crisis was far less spectacular than I had hoped. Ah, well. There is always the glassblowers to deal with. Always.

***

I got through this with nary a fluctuation in FPS. You'd think that, even if they are technically only half the number of the humans, I would see some difference. I'm beginning to wonder if the siege itself was bugged, and thus causing my drastic slowness, as opposed to it simply being a matter of numbers.

I don't know if you already skipped me or not but I got a PM and I am just confirming here that I will NOT be taking my turn due to fps issues.

Yeah you got skipped because you didn't reply for a few days.  It's ok, the fort is kinda FPS heavy.

Ack, I almost forgot my turn was coming soon. If it hadn't been for Marineking's Industrial Age fortress I would have totally forgotten about The Eternal Halls.

Good news! Humans just invaded, and my FPS is great. Barely even notice the difference, like with the goblins earlier. Must have simply been a huge, totally SUCK bug, last time.

I'm gonna wait until the end of my turn for the official update and write-up, but I just thought I'd let y'all know that things should turn out fine now.

Ugh. I know you guys aren't going to like this -- hell, I certainly don't -- but it's bugged again.

The siege goes well, fps is fine, but after about ten minutes (on 25 FPS, average), it just crashes (Well, freezes, but the end result is the same).

I tried it three times, and the third time I didn't kill the humans (Just to make sure). All three times it happened, no matter what I did.

Here is the save, if you guys wanna take a whack at it, go ahead.

So it would be my turn now, if we can't figure out this bug?
