From The Official Logbook of Managers of The Eternal Halls.  The second entry in the Logbook titled 102 Omer Vabokudar.
First of Granite of the year One Hundred Two
Today the term of my comrade and friend Dadam as General Manager of The Eternal Halls ends.  I am officially the Expedition Leader of this outpost, but this year marks my first real term of management of The Eternal Halls.  I will spend the day carefully examining our outpost and begin planning for my time as the leader.  Dadam has done exceedingly well in getting us inmountain and roomed and fed. To be certain it is a daunting task, and the signs of weariness have been apparent for the last few months. Now that we are safe from the Sun and all of the other perils it breeds it is time to organize.  That  is, unfortunately, not an attribute that my good friend friend posses.  But I find tasks that he enjoys, thinking Dwarves tasks, to be wearisome.  Like counting, for one.  He will without doubt enjoy the break from the pressures of leadership; may he count to his hearts content!   At the very least I plan to prepare for the welcome possibility of a population boost.  That means more rooms, beds, food. And drink, always drink.

My term begins now!

Question: Economy off?  I'd prefer it that way, but I'll change my init for this if y'all want it on.

Economy definately on.  We're doing this the real way.  Forever!  No matter much the advent of nobility and rents\wages ruins our design!

Looks good this far. But I just have a one question. Do we use the newest version of DF or some older version? Please put the version number after the save you're gonna post.

I'd prefer playing vanilla, but if you just need the FPS boost, I suppose that makes sense.  Thing is, I don't know the effect of turning such things on and off during play.  If the baron arrives on a turn with no economy, does the economy never start?  If the baron arrives, the economy starts, and then a year passes without it, what happens?

Also:  Be careful with no temp.  If you make something screwy happen with the magma, it would melt and explode all over the next person's turn.  Though honestly that would be fun I suppose.

Quote from: Dadamh
With regards to everyone's requests:  I set the skills you wanted and named those dwarves after you.  I believe Omer and Calvin are "she" at least, but I didn't really pay attention.  It's possible you did not get the personality traits you wanted.  Also the game picked Omer as expedition leader, as well as all other 'noble' appointments.  I replaced the bookkeeper with my dwarf, but I couldn't change the leader.  Sorry, Immortal, but it's random(ish).

Its ok, I meant leader of the army, like in sqauds.

Ok, just to be safe, I'll keep economy on then.  I was playing on 39e as well.  And I play with weather off for the fps, but temperature on, because you just have to have it!  :D

How much of a fps boost does just weather off give?
Ill probably play with temp on most of the time because DF just isn't DF without temperature.
maxfps 1000
gfps 15 gives me a really good boost already.

Hm, actually I ran a really shoddy comparison just now, and with my personal fort that has pop of 109 and a large embark area there was no appreciable difference in fps w/weather on or off.  It was around 19-30 fps either way, with it hanging around 25-27 most of the time.

The same was true with trying fps cap at 1000 and gfps at 15, no appreciable difference, at least for me.

But temp off boosted me to 30-50 fps with it hanging around 40-45 most of the time.  But I can't bear not having my precious temperature.  I have a dragon for crying out loud!  Although, I'm not sure if his flaming breath needs temp or not, I assume it does.

Anyway, moral of story: Weather on for me from now on!

Now, back to The Eternal Halls!  :D

This looks really cool. I don't post often, but I lurk everyday, and wouldn't mind getting in on this if you don't mind.

My computer isn't great, but it can handle most things with no problems. If nothing else, I can always skip my turn if things end up slowing to a crawl.

EDIT: Whoa, I just tried that stuff mentioned above about the FPS settings, and my FPS literally jumped by a factor of 5. My dwarves are zipping around almost too fast to keep track of them. Thanks for the advice, even if it wasn't given to me directly.

Quite well!  I am in late autumn right now.  I will be done with my turn tonight, but the write up won't come until tomorrow, because I will be hitting the bars here pretty soon :p

But things are going very smoothly.  Overall.

Anyhow expect the full report sometime tomorrow!
