I thought you started yesterday.

Haha, but anyway cool.  I haven't seen any threads about old saves causing bugs yet, so it shouldn't be a problem.  Plus, 38f will help the reclaim go easier if we ever have to.

12th Hematite Early Summer
A goblin ambush arrived with the human trade caravan Kuda Kicungosp the Human guild representative was shot in the upper right leg and to my knowledge he died shortly after
17th Limestone Early Autumn a goblin siege is upon us I sent out our military to aid our Dwarven allies. A goblin wrestler went into a rage after being beaten with a hammer then after being smashed again crawled off and died. The rest fell quickly and we managed to get one of the one who tried to flee.
Or dwarfs had no more than scrapes and bruises.
12th moonstone another siege this time they came with weapons our men are guarding the entrance.
the mace lord is the first to come charging through the door he kills a dog and smashed datan in the foot with his mace datan then delivered a stunning blow knocking the axe lord back stukos a swordsman finished him off after.
the rest of the goblins went down with ease.
Antlias was struck down by a goblin during the fight. R.I.P Antlias

Damn, Antlia, you just can't catch a break.  What extended member of the family is going to show up this time?

I swear this fortress really is cursed.  And an absolute eyesore to the goblins.  It just keeps getting better.  Sorry again for making you play two turns Cave King.

Wow, looking through the fort is amazing after leaving it.  Especially my avatar that I nearly killed the game to save.  He even fell in love with the hammerer I titled 'Hero', because despite a brain/spine sparring injury she was most reliable soldier in the army.  Incredible.  Nice that you started building the hill again too.  One question though, why was the marksdwarf squad deactivated?

EDIT: Upon further inspection, holy crap.  The rest of you have to see what Cave King's been up to in the basement.  Also, huzzah!  We have Tower-caps!  In your faces people who said it was too small!  Even though none of them are actually in the tree farm area!

Nooooo!!! I have to get someone else to be my avatar in the fortress, this time a farmer or something, so he doesn't possibly die so soon. But that wouldn't be fun, would it?

This forum seems to have different time than my computer (for example the date here is yesterday for me), so I can't say exactly when I start. The only sure thing is that I start today and finish god knows when, because school starts tomorrow in here. I'll try to be as fast as I can.

Hey, it's no rush.  We've had long turns before, and that's even ignoring the crazy time jump.  Don't worry about that.

Tower Caps will grow in small farms, but it just takes a while and there are less of them.  If you clear an entire level of stone and flood it, you'll have trees all over in a year or two.

Cave King does seem to like the Z-levels.  I tend to build really horizontal forts.

From the diary of Antlia Deduklimul (Manorgolds), the master engineer, the advisor of the major of Eternal Halls and the humble servant of Kervash the Crevices of Depth.

7 Obsidian, 105

To my surprise I have been chosen to lead this eternal fortress for a year. Maybe I should tell a bit about myself at first, before I start list the notes that I've made of this fort and what are my goals on my reign of terr period of rule.

I was born to a noble family, I think, but because of the Great Civil War of Dwarfkind I was given away, maybe because my parents wanted to protect me from the horrors of the war. I grew in a farmer family far from the mountainhomes, far from the war. When I was old enough my foster parents paid for my engineering training, cause they wanted me to leave to the cities beneath the mountains to become something, not just farm plump helmets in a little basement they had dug to the hill years ago.

And so, at the age of my adultness I left them (it had occured to me that I was never going to see them again) to make my way to the city to make money and hone my skills further. My skills never got better than a novice, but I soon realised that my skills were elsewhere. I was born to be a leader someday. I arrived into the city and lived harsh live, every day fighting for my life and soul in the merciless slums of the city. There were too many engineers far better than me, so I didn't get any jobs.

Few years ago I heard of an fortress said to be eternal, so I left there to gain money and power, in wich I have always had a lust for. the trek there was heavy, we had to fight the nature and it's children, the wildlife of the forests. Many were lost on the way but finally we got to our destination, the Eternal Halls. I started my career there, but soon I heard of an other dwarf named Antlia, who had just been killed accidentally before my arrival. I started thinking it carefully, because Antlia is a rather rare name among dwarves.

Finally I found out that he was from a noble family too and he was born in the excatly same city than I was. Last few days I have been trying to dig out this mystery.

I was promoted to be the advisor of the Mayor himself because of  I seemed to fit to the job. The Mayor had kept some tests to pick a good dwarf to the mission and I had the best results in it. Now I'm the one to lead this fort for a year, because the Mayor is not so fond of really doing anything for this place.

And so, I have made some research and found out the points of interest in the Eternal Halls. According to them I've also formed a things-to-do list, wich is right here:

- Organize the military better. Right now we have one "real" military squad and one very big squad that seems to be an emergency squad to hide all of us deep into the fortress at the time of siege. I think it is not a very good idea to keep such a squad so I have to remove it and reorganize the military structure better.
- Train marksdwarves whis is something very important. We have to get an element of destruction to kill the gobbos at long range.
- Make some defences. At the time we don't have a wall to keep the goblins out, so I have to make one. Couple of pillboxes and watchtowers wuld be good too.
- Clean up. There is stone lying on every floor of the fortress. That is so irritating that I have to do something about it.
- Make more coffins to fill up the crypt. There are too few of them.
- Make wells. I didn't see any of them.

That's about it. I'll start tomorrow, today was too busy.

With regards to wells, Aqizzar made a lot of water-filled tunnels.  Do NOT dig into them.  The pressure will flood the fort immediately!

As I mentioned, there is a marksdwarf squad, they're just not activated.  Go down the military roster to the planters and find a bunch of guys set to crossbows.  They were improving when I left them a year ago, and they should be better by now.

Actually there are two wells.  One in the barracks, and one in the drafty cave they all use as a meeting hall.  As for getting water down lower, the northern, lowest part of the waterway is disconnected from the source.  Your miners would get drenched, but it's finite.  Pulling the lever in Dadam's office upstairs opens those brass floodgates to refill that section (be sure to keep someone nearby to pull the lever again).
