Region 13 is cursed I tell you!
Eternal Halls will remain eternal even if it means gong back in time.

Anyways Ill be able to get things done better and faster now that I know how simple a tower cap farm is. Efficiency is crucial to a fortress

By default you get e-mail notifications. Pretty hard to miss.

I do not like email spam. If I want to check my PMs, then I go to the forum that my PMs are on. My email is for emailing stuff.

So I want to know if there's a little thing at the top of the forum that says "You have a new PM". I bet there is, so there's probably no reason to worry.

Cave King: Yuk!  That's no fun. Not only is it the folder, but we're on page 13 of the thread now!  :o  On my laptop I get those lots, so its literally saving every 10 or 20 minutes!  Desktop no problems though.

Penguin: yeah, when you sign in, there's a tab that says "My Messages" if you have one there will be a [1] or [2]..etc. next to it depending on how many new messages are in there.

The strange thing is I never get BSODs It could be because I had my cpu overclocked a little too far 2.7GHz it bsods sometimes but at 2.6 its 98% stable.

Oh, sign me up. For more challenge, I'm not going to read any of the posts in this thread about the fortress. I want to be surprised. Just PM me when I'm up.

Hopefully, PMs will be more noticeable in this forum than they were in the last one.

Righto, adding you and with a note to PM you when your turn comes.

Hey Aqizzar, what's up with the goblin?

That goblin floating over a channel with an earring in it.  It doesn't register as anything, but if you abandon fort it gives the "You failed a siege" message.

How'd that happen?  It's a bit weird.

I really don't know what happened with that goblin.  Apparently he was knocked into the air and got stuck, as it were.  I've tried channeling under him and building on him, and neither dislodged him.  Collapsing something on him might work, but since he's above ground, you can't cave on him.  Can't build anything either, so a bridge is out.  I just wanted to finish up, so I built a wall around him to keep him out of the way, but I really don't know what to do about it.  He's just stuck in "flying" mode.  He can't be [v]queried and doesn't show up on the unit list, but his equipment does show up in the stocks menu.

I didn't know he keeps the place registered as under siege.  I wonder if that means another siege won't show up, or if it just means that if the fort ever crumbles, it'll be taken over by goblins (which is pretty cool anyway).  If absolutely necessary, I've got a backup save from right before the big battle starts, so I can play it out again.  Obviously, we'd want to do that now, so Cave King can move on with his turn.

Meh, i won't worry about it.

Good writeup by the way.   I liked the short stories interspersed with the diaries.

Yeah your style is cool!  8)

Unless I am misunderstanding your statement about collapsing and caving...
You can collapse/cave something on someone above ground.

Here's a side view:
Code: [Select]
  (^)---------------------------------------
  (^)I
    ^I                                g
    ^
    ^
...........................................
The dashes are built floor.  The "I"s are a supports, only the top one has to be hooked to a lever. "^" are staircases.  The staircases in parenthesis are ones that were there for the construction of the top floor and the level just below (where the support connected to the lever is), but then is deconstructed (otherwise the top floor won't fall. I thought that having just the stairs on the level of the floor to fall would be enough, but apparently the stairs just below also hold it up).  Once the lever that the support is connected to is pulled, the constructed floor above our "g"oblin should cave on him.

If I'm stating what's already known and probably obvious, my apologies!  :)

Count me in.  I've been wanting to try something like this ever since I read the story of Boatmurdered.

Yeah, unless I'm mistaken, that would simply deconstruct a floor over him.  If I understand it right, natural floors falling behave differently from constructed ones.  Natural tiles produce actual force and "cave in" effects.  I could be wrong about all of this, and will now test it.  Or you can just go ahead and see what happens, in true succession game fashion.

What I'm afraid of is that the goblin is perminantly stuck in "fly through the air" mode and is completely immune to world effects.  But if anything will bring him down, a cave in would.

Also, I have no idea where that earring under him came from.  I suppose we could just leave the mess there as a monument to our cursed abode.  The Eternal Halls, the only dwarf fortress so tough, a goblin got trapped between dimensions.

Oh, and I haven't said anything, but thanks to everyone for all the props about my write-ups.  They were part of the reason why my updates took so long, but I just feel obligated to do it.  Nice to hear you enjoyed them.

I had the same problem with channeling under a wagon once. In the end I used the teleport function in gibbed's tweak and randomly moved it elsewhere, then it suddenly resumed its normal activities and left the map

Sure, adding you to the list.  I think I might change the way we loop this after a bit; it seems we will never get to the end with the number of new folks coming in.

Also:  How's it going again, Cave King?

Hey, NEW RULE on succession here!

Ok, since we keep getting new signups and looping in a normal sense won't work, I say we do it this way:

You can have one pending turn at a time.  After you take your turn, mention in the final post of your writeup that you'd like to be listed again, and I'll add you to the end of the list.  That way we can keep taking new signees, but if I, say, sign up again as #17, then I'm still #17, instead of waiting for the list to finish when it grows faster than people play.

I will tack myself on the end of the list now, and everyone who wants another turn, tell me and I'll add you in (this time) order that your original turn was.  After that, it's first come first serve.

This has the side advantage of ending up with a stupidly long list that makes us look awesome.

Dadamh: OOOH! Sign me up!  :D 8) I wanna play!

Aqizzar: It probably won't work against our mystical flying goblin, but collapsing a built construction works the same as a cave in.  I use traps like that all the time on my laptop forts because I usually don't have enough dwarves for a military for FPS reasons.  So I build all kinds of lever controlled smashing devices.  It still gives the collapse message, and the crap will kill anything under it and smash through areas that aren't solid underneath!  Dust and all!  :D

It's worth a shot, I suppose! Or not...could be feature of the fort...build some windows around him or something...:P
