What?  I don't think meat spoils if it's in stockpiles.

It doesn't rot no, but it does get worn out much faster than if it were in barrels. Vermin can get at it and Dwarves walking over it damages it. And besides, would you rather have raw meat sitting on a dusty stockpile floor? :P

But meat gets stored in barrels if you have enough of them.

But yeah yeah.  Plus preparing meals makes it easier for dwarves to get their favored foods.  Though it does lessen the number of seeds you get, but when has that ever been a problem?  I'm normally up to my neck in plump helmets after about the fifth year of farming.  My recent long-term fort was on year nine and had eight thousand plump helmets all over.

I don't know where I was going with that.

I'm cooking the food to free up space mostly.  Not cooking the plump helmets (not that it would matter) - we've got something in the range of 450 of them.  And lots of dwarven wine, though I'm worried about how the dwarves are going to react to that.  I'll try to get some wider drink types.

And sorry I'm taking so long.  Lots of real responsibilities always seem to come up, and this fort takes some wrangling.  Got some migrants today-

Record of the Eternal Halls, 17th of Slate of 104

Kid was born.  Son of Rovod the master jewelist and the other woodcutter.

Bunch of migrants showed up.  Some got useful skills.  Most were slackers, put them to work smoothing the walls.  One claims to be a true Dungeon Master, come to see the beasts in the cave river.  Our first noble, demands and all.  Grand.  Seventy one dwarves live here now.

Speaking of the river, we've got plenty of liquor, but a secure, accessible, not-monster-infested water supply is a good thing.  I've drawn up plans for Calvin's miners to dig out.  Planning it as they dig – not sure where to run the water to, since the river's above half the fortress.

Stuff done-
-Made furniture.
-Dadam got the elves to leave – made them turn over some drinks and cart off some stone junk.
-Dug a barracks.  One hammerdwarf took a bad head hit, looks kind of funny now.

Stuff doing-
-Dig waterway.  Somewhere.
-Smooth stone.  We were lacking stoneworkers till the migrants got here.

So yeah, we've got a Dungeon Master now.  Destinctive character that she is I figure some later player would like to claim her.

Word of warning - with possible demands like that, she might have to die.

And Antlia, I'll get your son in next update.  Gotta run to work.

AGH.  Look at all the likes!  No place in any DF world has all those metals and gems!

Haha, fun times.  Still, I don't think we should just constantly kill nobles.  That seems like a fairly bad idea.

Agreed. Much higher chance for problems if we try to meet the nobles demands/mandates instead of offing them as soon as possible.

A fortress where nothing bad happens is a boring fortress.

I have a feeling this fort will be the definition of epic.

I think I should tell you guys that I have pretty much no experience with military in dwarf fortress so if a siege happens on one of my turns it might not end so well.

I know how to draft troops and tell them what weapons to use and how to make them train but im a novice at it.

Be happy that i set up the Metal industry then :P.

Cave King, the Job Manager will be your friend when equipping your troops :3.

And someone should really make a "Energy Farm" for our miscellaneous constructions :P.

That's all you really need for most sieges.  Lock all but one door to the outside, have a bunch of traps in front of that door.  Have marksdwarves on a ledge above that door, behind fortifications, preferably unreachable from the ground.  What the traps don't kill, the marksdwarves will annihilate.

Anyway, if you have a massive catastrophic siege on your turn and everyone dies, write up till then, end your turn, and the next guy can reclaim.  That's sorta the hook for this place anyhow!

I've allways wanted to build a massive power-plant. I think I'll make a hydro-power dam.

Look here!

It's this massive ugly water tower I once built.

But it took like 12 waterwheels to power it all.  Ugly as hell, but it worked...;)

To be honest, I'm hoping to happens right before my turn. ;D

I've yet to test my machine on 500 quadrillion dwarves... and I'd personally rather there be at least 499 quadrillion corpses before I start. :P
