I always wondered what that toggle for "Cheese (Plant)" was about.  "Drink (Animal)" too.

Cow milk, camel milk, all the milks go in under Drink (Animal).
Actually, those go under Extract (Animal).  Drink (Animal) has nothing defined.

I wonder if Toady just put those in for completeness, or if he planned to make the option for such things.  Or is there already?  To the raws!

Someone must mod in a milkable plant. Perhaps call them milk pods.
Also, a brewable vermin.

I'm not sure how one would depict this, as it's a bug caused by the lack of units, but somehow fitting "Dwarf Fortress 3: Nemesis" on there would be cool (as long as Capcom doesn't sue, anyway). Or maybe make it a combination of the inflate error and the nemesis unit load failure by depicting computer files with the caption "Dwarf Fortress -3: Nemesis"

A possible "Elves" badge, hehe.  This is a rather comical depiction, but in my mind I imagine the actual elves of Dwarf Fortress to look much more sinister... alien almost.

That's awesome. The only suggestion I have is to try to make it look more LOTR-like. That depiction looks too much like how I would imagine goblins to look for my taste.

Personally, I like it, as these elves are nothing at all like the LOTR elves. They live in the wild with no real homes, they die easily in combat, and they breed like rabbits. Just give him some more hair, so he doesn't look bald.

Goblins are usually depicted as bald- he may look more elven if in addition to giving him more hair you made it blonde hair.

Here is my badge idea.  It is only a prototype, I must await a talented artist to render it properly.

The title is: "It Menaces with Spikes of Cat Bone"

Oh shit.  I just read the original post... the badges have to depict death.  Ooops.

You'll need something illustrating the fact that everything freezes to death at night time if it isn't underground yet.

Fell mood would make a nice badge.  Make it look like a chair made out of dwarf bones and skull.  Then again, that's just a death for one dwarf, not the whole mine.

This is just a rough sketch.  The final thing will be much nicer.

So!  I wanted to help support Dwarf Fortress's development by creating a poster and selling it online.  All the profits, of course, would go directly to Tarn/Toady.

I was trying to think of an idea that was appropriately Dwarf Fortress-ey... at first, I considered doing something like your typical fantasy painting except with dwarfs battling a raging zombie elephant while carp nip at their feet, or something like that!  But in the end, I felt this idea (shown above) captured more the spirit of the game: a depiction of some of the best ways to die in DF, rendered as though you might find it engraved on the wall of a fortress.  With an appropriately lo-fi type feel.  (And partly inspired by heavy metal albums/posters.)

Wanted to get your guys's feedback first, though.  (And Toady's!)

1. Does the "selling a poster" idea sound like a good one?  Again, 100% of the profits would go to Toady to support the game.

2. Do you like my design?  Is it something you'd actually want to have?

3. If yes, then help me come up with ideas for the death "badges!"  Demons, elephants, giant spiders, carp... and drowning, miasma, suicide... I get a big kick out of reading people's horrific deaths on these boards, and I think it'd be fun to incorporate them into the theme of the poster.

4. Any other ideas/feedback is appreciated.

Thanks, guys!

Looks great.. some good ideas everywhere from others in this thread also. I skimmed/read most of thread but... Skelks would go nicely next to the elephants :D Nist Akath was great too :D Sorry if it was mentioned before... as I said, I also skimmed a bit.

And yeah I would prob buy some shirt or fun little item (coffee mug!!) with some funny DF art/text on it. I love stuff like that.
